Hurricane Katrina
Now a Cat. 5, 175Mph winds near the center, hurricane force winds now extending 190 miles out from the center. The pressure is 902mb, the fourth lowest in the HISTORY of the Atlantic basin (not just US). The eye of this thing is 29 miles wide! The storm itself however, is the SECOND strongest to hit the US in history. The only hurricane stronger then this one to hit the US was the 1935 hurricane of the Florida Keys. This is gonna be a bad one, headed straight for New Orleans with predicted storm surge of over 25 feet, the city could be underwater.
Yeah, it doesn't look good for New Orleanians. The city is already below sea level, and coupled with being surrounded by the Miss river, Lake pontchatrain and the Gulf of Mexico we're lilkey to see the entire city submerged. Being that I'm from New Orleans, I've weathered a few hurricanes, but nothin as extreme as Katrina. I called home and talked to relatives before the mayor issued the mandatory evacuation order for everyone to leave the city. My family is driving to Houston for refuge, normally they would weather the storm but this system is too powerful to even think about staying. I'm praying for a shift in direction or decrease in wind speed, but I doubt it if it degrades to a Cat 4 by landfall.

Hope they make it through OK.
damn its a tragedy that this is going to happen to the folks down there.. the history that lays within that city could be washed away forever.. our kids will never know what Mardi Gras New Orleans style is.. damn just the thought about how much damage and change this is going to bring to everyone.. I think history is being written as I type this.. and as you read this..
Thanx AWD, I got bad feelings about this one, and the sad thing of it is that many residents that are rooted in their neighborhoods either refuse to leave, or they cannot afford to. We'll see what happens I hope the best for them. I'll keep ya posted.
