Installing interior LED strips
 

Recently bought 4 strips of blue LED's and can't really find any good tutorials or walkthroughs so far, still looking, but was wondering if anyone knows how/can post pics on how I can wire these suckers to my battery and what all exactly I need, like do I need fuses and all that fun stuff?...http://www.oznium.com/led-ribbon are what i have, two 1' strips and two 6" strips with http://www.oznium.com/rocker-switch to turn it on...am i able to buy extra cable to make these things longer? Cuz the wires aren't exactly that giving with length..anyone know how to take out the trim surrounding the shifter? I wanted to put the rocker switch right below the shifter (so that the e-brake would be pointing at it basically)

Yes, you can just add more wire. the basic way to wire leds is to find a power source in the car (*Cough cigarette lighter *Cough) run a wire from that to a simple fuse. fuse to + side of rocker... There are MANY ways to run leds and so on... But mkae sure it's what you want before you start cutting up your car... Maybe a more hidden area like the arm rest would keep the car looking good... I liked the look when I was 16 and now grew out of fast and furious wanna be quick! I have LEDs on my motorcycle for safety not looks! So rice on Mr. Farns!

I just think it'd be cool to have a blue interior, just adds a personal touch...anyways I wanna wire them to my battery or have a seperate 12V battery in the trunk (if that's possible?) to wire the strips to and possibly my subs when i get them? So i'd wanna run wires through door trims and stuff like that..just wondering if anyone had some advice

Yep you can run a wire straight from the battery. That's what I do on my bike. I was just recommending the outlet cuz same power and it's already in the car so you don't need to be running wire from under the hood! Always fuse, never straight wire. Check your local laws over there in PA cuz a lot of states have banned the lights inside while driving, and pretty much all states have laws against blue lights.

are you trying to have them light up only when the doors open or when the ignition is on?

No need for a second battery... from the sounds of things, you should have a professional do this as you're likely to burn your car to the ground. :P

Haha I think i can handle it, i've just never done this before and i'm just tryin to be cautious...i don't wanna ruin my baby-which is why i'm havin my stepdad help, he knows electrical work, just never done this specifically...the extra battery was just an idea me and a friend had, figured i'd run it through you guys and i'm glad i did, that's outta the window now

-Not really cuz i don't wanna drive with them on, but i've been reading places that you can have it turn on with your ignition and if you have a switch, which i do, you can still control whether it's on or off when the ignition starts up

although having them turn on when the doors open would be pretty nice, then i could use the switch to keep them on or off

-I appreciate the recommendation, I'm just worried about abusing that cig lighter...i use it every time i'm in the car to either power something like my GPS (speaking of which i eventually wanna buy a mount and hardwire THAT to my car, anyone know how or if it can be done? it's a Garmin Nuvi) or to use the cig lighter itself, so would that affect the lighter outlet in any way if i wired my led's to there with a fuse inbetween?

The ciggy lighter, like all the other circuits in yiour car, is fused. All it cares about, rilly, is how much current you demand from it. Exceed that and the fuse blows, protecting the circuit.

When you're deciding how/where to run the wires, be mindful of kinks and pinches, ESPECIALLY against metal parts/components. We (and yer step-dad) call those short-circuits (or, shorts, for short, LoL), and they are generally a grizzley-Bear-sized B!TCH to track down. Run your wire carefully and, hopefully, you'll never have to skin THAT bear!
