Default Be Kind to you're neighborhood friendly Cable Guy.

Public Service Announcement:

Ok I know its my job and I love doing it. But people need to be more kind to their cable/satellite guy when he comes to your house. He's more likely not to do a hack job.

I don't care how much your property is worth. Or how much you make a year it doesn't make you better. If your Dish Network guy gets there in a thunderstorm don't demand he sets a pole in your backyard behind some trees
so you don't have to look at your dish when you have so many other availiable lines of sight. poles and lightning typically don't get along.

Please don't laugh when your dog bites the cable guy. He's really not enjoying it and probably wants to kick the dog. he won't. But he really wants to.

and finally if said dog chews through the power cable on your cable box. DO NOT. I repeat DO NOT hardwire the reciever to the 110v outlet on your house. when the dish guy disconnects the cable to check it. that much amperage is not a pleasant feeling coursing through your body.

and yes ladies and gentlemen. That was my day at work today.

thank you for your time.

That's very true, when the guy came to hook up my house with SAT, I was being nice and he basically gave me mad extra wires spliced with the harnesses incase I move furniture around.

haha its great if you work directly for the company and don't have to pay for equipment because you don't feel bad giving it away at all. words of experience.

sweetee its the cable guy not Santa Clause... haha.

I'm usually pretty nice to my cable guy and even help him out figuring where we want things to go and in some cases where the easiest path might be. Last time he left me a few extra cables and helped me make sure it was all working.

next time you need cable work done sweetee let me know. I love getting cash tips from people (even though I don't think its required) but even moreso, I love getting food. I have had people give as of thus far, cheeseburgers off the grill, kielbasa and garlic rice, loaves of fresh bread, cookies, homemade candy, and more soda and waterbottles than you can shake a stick at. and thats just this year! I even had a guy give me a gallon of fresh maple syrup from his farm. see thats appreciation. not required but if you ask me to do something ridiculous like wall fish your entire house. I can tell you no. but i usually don't and I like the gratitude. makes my job worthwhile.

don't get me wrong I love my job and have been doing it a while. But people think they can treat the cable guy anyway they want because its their house. if you're going to be a dick, I don't see the reason they even let somebody into their house!

yes teeter, as the post implies I work currently for dish network, and the benefits suck. I get free basic cable thats it. the cable company here gives you everything, cable phone internet and home security at the highest mark. with no charge. and the health insurance is better. I have been wanting to get a job there but I think you need to give them your first born or something as a deposit.
