Ok so....... I'm gonna Propose to my GF of 2 1/2 year's...... Needless to say she's been wanting this more than I... But I'm 23 in 3 weeks and I have a decent paying job and I'm on my way to buying m,y first home. I'm just wondering For a little help on a ring what type should I buy her and what kind diamond like a square cut or what not..Keep in mind I'm willing to spend more than 5 g's but I wanna keep it reasonable in the 6-10 range but I don't wanna spend more than 8 truely. Anybody in expertise in this area??

Oh and believe me I'm not getting any younger folk's and I do not have kids and don't plan to till I am 26 or later , so Let's keep it real

this statement right here bothers me more than anything

are you sure this is the one? do you have any doubts?

if the first is a yes and last is a no....... go shopping, take her to the mall, walk by a store, and tell her you wanna look at a watch....... get her in the door.... let her pick the style of rind you want, then go to a jeweler and have them make it

or start dropping little hints on what she likes, doesn't matter what we like, but princess cut is a nice looking ring

+1 for the princess cut.

And I also agree on finding something SHE will like. She might be happy as hell when you propose but she WILL be checking out her ring and comparing it to her girlfriends'. Lol

+ one on getting a jeweler to make it.
My previous boss used to buy his wife jewelery all the time, and he always had it made. Usually one-off stuff... beautiful. He'd get it appraised, and it would often go for 5x what he paid.
I guess finding the right jeweler is a whole new problem.

Princess cuts are over done. Find out her opinion on Cushion or Ascher cuts

Find out what she wants in a ring. Square cut, round cut, princess cut, hearts on fire cut... are all things to consider. Does she want one stone, or three stones? Gold, white gold, platinum, or palladium? Like A4Girly and turbokraut said, take her out to the mall, get her to drop hints as to what she wants in an engagement ring.

I just got engaged to my gf of 6 years, and I got her exactly what she wanted in an engagement ring. Got her a platinum, 3-stone, 2 carat tw ring. BTW, the wedding is set for June 2008 in Hawaii.

I didn't buy my lady a ring. I bought her something way more useful.... A Beretta 92FS that I did some work to. Gotta think outside the box, man!

The marquies (sort of diamond shaped) seemed to be the hot item when I got hitched. The oneI got had a band that the engagement ring fit/slid into.
