this is a little off topic. i currently own an 02 s4 and this part of the forum has helped me out so much. my brother is looking at a 04.5 jetta gli from a private seller. should i have my brother look anywhere specific or take it to a dealer/shop to look at it. how can i find out if the car was raced. i need all the help i can get heres the link http://newjersey.craigslist.org/car/297616714.html i did some research and its a pretty good price i also was emailed pics of the car and it looks very clean. he needs all the help buying a used car.

 

GLI's are nice, I actually almost bought one. Buying a used car isn't much different between makes and models. Look it over, get it's history, find trouble spots and see if they have been addressed, take it for a ride, and if you can a shop and you should be golden. Just check for obvious red flags towards racing such as mods or the owner's personality. Check the carfax and if it is clean than I would take it for a test drive and go from there.
