Old people shouldn't be driving!
I very nearly had a horrible afternoon... Here's what happend. I walked out to my car to leave and see this old lady pull in to our shop in an old Bonneville she can barely even see over the steering wheel. So I get in my car and start it up and wait for this lady to finish turning around to leave as she is backing up she just keeps going and going and going... RIGHT INTO MY CAR.. I was so lucky I was leaving right then because I was able to honk the horn to wake her up. I'm so glad I didn't end up having a really bad day lol. This right after I just ordered a door from a salvage yard to fix the rusted one in back that someone else backed into before I got the car. Would have been just great to have to do the front one and the front fender with it...
well i almost t-boned some old dude because i was coming down a hill with a green light in front of me and he waits for a sec and then just decides to do a left turn when i'm almost at the intersection. if i didn't have the A8 BBK, i swear i would've hit him. i know how you feel man. there's tons of old ladies in may area that are driving and can barely see over the steering wheel and it scares the hell outa me
Worst part was that this big Cadillac SUV failed to yield the right of way to me at a stop sign on a busy road so when I pulled out I ended up pulling out in front of him. Then this old lady was at a stop sign with all 4 signs loaded but went through as soon as the person in front of her did. Can't wait for my new door so I can install it and buff the whole thing a little and have one shiny car! Just need rims. OEM 1999 B5 rims suck.
I have been to MULTIPLE accidents where the elderly have placed their vehicle into drive instead of reverse and gunned the accelerator launching the car forward and inside an entire store. How they manage to avoid hitting people in every accident like that I've been on, I will never know. One particular case that comes to mind was when I was working the scene of a collision involving injury. We had three marked police cars with lights on surrounding the scene and a uniformed officer directing traffic at the intersection.
A minivan was off the roadway and down a ditch. The tow truck driver was wynching the van out when an elderly man driving a van cut through two of the cruisers onto the closed roadway. Luckily my partner saw it before I did and he was smart enough to hit his air horn several times. The tow truck driver heard it and saw the van, the van did not. The van ran into the cable just as the tow truck driver dove under his truck. The van hit the cable so hard that the back of the van came up into the air and landed back down. The cable itself cut halfway into the engine bay. Had my partner not hit that horn that driver would have been cut in half.
We issued him a reckless driving ticket and I filled out a drivers re-licensing examination form. This means that the at fault driver has to go through medical screening and the entire drivers license exam process.

Here's an example of what NAHO is talking about. happened while a local club memeber was at work a few days ago.
