[PAUSE]I'd like to start with... I DON'T WANT YOUR OPINION OF FORD. I have owned a Ford myself, my parents have always owned 2 Fords at a time for the past 10 years... I know Ford... and really don't know how they got such a bad rap. None of our cars have ever had any trouble... so spare me your spoon fed opinoins.
Ahem... anywho...[/PAUSE]
Unless this guy's lying (in which case I’ll take him to court... I guess)
The damage wasn't very extensive... and he had pics to demonstrate.
The car slid into the back of a pickup... not too bad of damage... but beings as the pickup's bumper is higher than the foci's.... there was a decent amount of damage. Hood was replaced, headlight, rad damage, and fender replaced... all in all... typical fender bender. BUT... the title claiming comes here.... the first owner was a little rich punk... daddy bought him a brand new Focus... and he got sponsored by pioneer (still have the 'pioneer' logo stitched in the door... is kinda cool... but the little kit took all the audio with him... bastard) there are SOME engine mods... intake (I’ll be changing) exhaust (I’ll DEF be changing) and cams (wanted... but wasn't really looking forward to doing) so all in all... score. Some exterior mods (nice side skirts I’ll be keeping, rear skirt I’ll be selling... no front skirt (damaged... thrown out) and 18" rims I’ll be selling). So yeah... kid bangs up his car... and decides he doesn't want it anymore... and has daddy buy him a new focus to start on
. Meanwhile, focus I’m looking at sits there waiting for someone to buy it (damaged). Kid claimed the damage (thus on Carfax) to get some extra moula for mods... gets fed up with damaged focus and sends it to the auctions. Owner 2's (guy I’m buying offa) dad picks up the car at the auctions... and $1500 later, car is repaired. Owner 2 is a mechanic... has had extensive tests done on the frame and engine... verified everything is great... but is stuck with this stupid title. Not sure if it's an American vs. Canadian thing... but Carfax lists it as 'Salvage'... he has a card saying 'rebuilt'. All in all... I frikken love the car... ON the test drive I destroyed a Maxima... which was weird... OH, and it also has Eibach springs with Koni shocks... thing handles on rails. I was planning on autoXing this car... so I’m well on my way already. I'd never think to buy someone else's work.... unless I’m planning on redoing everything... which I am. the entire interior is redone (minus dash... thank god) in vinyl and leather. The seats are awesome... black leather side bolsters with tan leatherette inserts... same tan coloured vinyl roof and side pillars
which will defiantly see the trash. Going to obviously be changing the intake (no name... heat soak was very evident) and the exhaust is wayyyy too loud. It IS a catback... unsure of brand... but it was almost fart can territory.
Unfortunately... no pics... but it looked CLEAN. it's getting a full detail job before I buy it (minor little things) and I’m having it have a very very thorough look over by a friend of mine's dad... who is an EXCELLENT mechanic... (not at his house... at his shop... it IS professional
)
I plan on running this car into the ground. So resale really isn't on my mind. If I do end up selling the car... a 'salvage' title won't be the only think holding it back. I’d be selling it for like an extra couple hundred bucks in my pocket. I have to drive this car at least 4 years. And screw off... ford doesn't suck; this car will obviously make it. It has 27,000 on it... it’s schweet.
so... no engine rebuild, what seems like alright body damage taken care of very well... 27,000 km 2001 car I LIKE (read: 'I don't want to hear your opinions of Ford'), some mods to sell for extra coin... some mods (3 cams, subs (2 10" Infinities), and side skirt) I’m gonna keep...
Would you buy it?

so.. here's the deal

muahahaha.. here's the weird part...
this guy... mechanic (21... so obviously HE hasn't been doing all the work) is... stupid.
This car FIRST went for sale for $13,000... WAAAAY too much for a 2001 Focus. He figured... 27,000, $20K invested in the car... $13K should be enough.
He actually started getting calls for $13K... but no one bit
so down to $9K he went... where I came in and told him 'MAX 8K'
so... he says he'll think about it, but encourages me to come look at the car.
so I do (this morning) and pulling out Chris' (shokington to the rest of you losers) "You can have the car sit here... entertain a bunch of tire kickers... OR consider my offer" gig... he's down to about $7-7.5K
This car is FULLY certified. I have his business card, and a free (written AND signed) offer to fix ANYTHING that ever arises. He is willing to stand by this car completly... which is really cool, and definatly fills me with confidence that this really is a good car.
He is also DESPERATE to sell this car. He reciently got his 3rd speeding ticket... and can no longer afford the insurance. Just 2 weeks ago he actually canceled the liability, and is just payinf fire flood and theft... he's walking, and needs this car gone. When it's gone, his insurance company assured him a '99 Pickup truck will be affordable.
so... $7-7.5... is the short answer to that question
EDIT: Also keep in mind... this is 27,000 KILOMETERS!

I know a guy who wrecked his Focus in a street race, while the other car barely too damage (Honda Accord). I think the Focus just tends to crumple more, causing more damage overall. But then again, you can't form an opinion based on one experience.
I personally don't like the Focus, but if the price is right and the guy is honest, I'd pick it up.

yeah, i was thinking the same thing when i was hearing about the 'rebuilt' record "these things are designed to crumple...."
Apparently this thing didn't have any frame damage whatsoever... and i actually believe him. he had x-rays done (didn't know they did that...) and extensive frame analysis BEFORE he took it into repairs. apparently it was just poor luck... the headlight was cracked... and the hood, bumper and fender damaged enough for it to not be worth repairing... especially when they had a red junker sitting in the lot for parts

i been lying to all of you
u kno i have a confession also i dont really drive an AUDI
i been lying to all of you
lol... YOU BASTARD
i was hoping to have an Audi... so i joined the forum to learn more... and can't find one in Canada for uner 10K... (STILL!)
then i was gonna get a VW... but i can't find a reliable one (decient mileage) for under 10K
now focus... i've always liked the ZX3... but never been able to afford the insurance... found a company with reasonable rates (for me anyway) so i can actually own a deciently new, very reliable, highly moddable, fun car. yay.
someday... i will join audidom... but not yet.

I will keep my eyes open in the states. for an audi for you, what type you looking for? and i am assuming under 10k.... maybe you could get a wrecked audi, and it would be cheaper, since your going the route of a wrecked and rebuilt car
I'd bite, if I were in your situ. You say yer gonna autoX it, right. Sounds like a good place to start. The Foci in Europe were runners, well, middle-distance runners at least. Not quite sprinters, not long-drivers. Set up right they'd even outdo a stock 911, in teh mountains (where brakes, *****, and exit speeds rule). I've seen it myself. Don't know about here in N.Americe (and America-LITE
), but there's tons of mods avail in Europe for the Foci.
