Default Question about a ticket.

I got a no front plate ticket May 26th of last year in San Francisco. It was a fix it ticket. Couple of days i later i went to DMV and requested an extra license plate, but they told me i had to get a complete NEW set of plates, i couldnt just get one. So they went ahead and ordered two new plates, with a different license plate number than before. When i got them i put both of them on. Now, i thought that was all you needed to do, the officer did not tell me anything specific. Anyways, today i went to DMV to replace my lost license, and when i got there, they couldnt issue one because my license was suspended! I asked them why and they said it was an issue from SFPD from May 26,2007 which was the plate issue. So i dont get it. If i had two new plates replaced by the DMV, the SFPD would have known that if they checked my status right? I mean i got the fix it ticket fixed almost immediately. Im gonna call them and find out whats going on tommorow. I was wondering what do you think they are going to tell me or charge me in order to have my license unsuspended. The funny thing is my license has been suspended since last year and i didnt even get a notification! Not once! I have been pulled over by the Highway patrol twice this year and they never once told me my license was suspended! Anyone know what is going on here before i call them tommorow??? Im confused.

just the dmv at their finest...

that sounds really dumb seeing as you already got in your fix it ticket and apparently that has been settled...

only cost i can see coming from this is the cost of a new license...

Yeah hope its just paying the DMV their license replacement fee...As for SFPD you never, im hoping for the best, but im also scared it might be close to $1,000 fine since its been a year they have had my license "suspended".

I cant get my license from the DMV until I clear the SF issue, which pisses me off, im currently "not supposed to be driving"

Just b/c you picked up 2 new plates at the DMV after the ticket, it was not proof that you installed both of them... hope it works out that su(ks.

Yeah... frustrating for sure. It'd be nice if all government agencies were a little more united. Makes sense for the PD and DMV to have some kind of electronic relationship.

Hope it gets worked out. I'd be sure and bring proof that you have had your new plates for as long as you have. They should be satisfied that you did as they asked... it'd be ***** if they chastised you for some technicality.

I think i still have the papers when i got the new plates, if not i can get the DMV to print out a proof. The DMV should have a relationship with other agencies, i agree, it would make things that much better.

Used to live in Cali. You have to go to a local police station and get an officer to see your plates installed and sign off. Then you take the signed off ticket to their cashier or whatever they call it and they will file the paperwork. If you do that first there may be no more penalties but then again CA is 975 GAZILLION dollars in debt. I'd call the po-po station from the ticket and ask directly. They talk a tough game but they are actually helpful people, just usually pissed off and exhausted from dealing with all the scum.

Check it out...I've gotten alot of tickets, and I mean alot of tickets....LOL

This is what you do. Call the courts and set up a new court date for the original ticket. After you do that you need to go to the court house and obtain an abstract for the ticket which allows you to reinstate you licence. The courts should notify the DMV electronically, but both the Calif. court system and the DMV are complete and utter morons so if I were you I'd take the paper that the clerk gives you at the court house for the abstract and go to the DMV and make shure the abstract went through. At this point you can pay the fee to have your licence reinstated. Then Dont forget to go to your court date.....dont forget!!! When you go to court for your arreinment plead "no contest"!!! Explain to the judge that you've never had a fix it ticket in your life and you thought that since you went to the DMV and ordered the plates that you thought eveything was ok. He should drop the charges for the Failure to appear and just charge you a civil assesment fee. Just take it as a lesson learned and remember Ignorance of the law isn't an excuse!!! Not trying to be a dick and not flaming you just educating you!

BTW next time you got a fix it ticket, you need to correct the issue and go by a local CHP or Sherrifs dept. they will sign off the ticket stating you corrected the situation.
