Questions: tuning an A4 1.8tq
I am in the process of looking for a new d/d car. the A4 is at the top of my list. but tuning the car is very important to me. My question is can i get 300 hp and 300+ lb-ft out of the 1.8t safely without hurting the internals of the engine, and what are the best upgrades to do so? And how reliable with the car be with the upgrades? any help would be much appreciated
Yeah it's possible, with a big turbo setup and tuning.
But it's still risky and you will most likely run into problems as you put more miles on the setup, and it'll be 300 crank horse power.
I don't see why you'd put a big turbo on your DD, but to each his own...
If you want that much power and a reliable car, buy a car that comes stock with that much power, that's my suggestion to you.

Meh, the eliminator setups (GTRS and GT71R) are both reliable, stockish, and fairly affordable. They'll make about 240-280 whp, and in many ways retain stock driveability. 2002+ is the way to go to get the best tuning... as the B5 has sort of been forgotten by the big tuners nowadays.
So, really, to answer the question... I'd say the A4 is a good choice. 300 crank horsepower is easy, and would be really reliable. 400 crank is about where you can go without upgrading internals... after that, you want to install aftermarket rods. The rest is good to go.

No... not dumb. You get luxury and refinement, and power when you want it.
Don't get me wrong, STi's and Evo's are killer cars, but I don't wanna be in a tin can trimmed with plastic. I'll take some leather and soundproofing, thanks!

My dad has a 400hp GTO, LS2.. Thing is pointless. Fun but pointless.
^ yeah but it would be nice to be able to open it up a little harder once in a while.
I'm most likely going K04 within the next couple of weeks, and I know that's just going fuel my fire and make me want to go bigger.
DD or not, it's nice to have that power when you want it. Necessary? Not at all. Good on gas? Not even close. None of that bothers me though. I like to enjoy my car.
