So...someone wanna
So...someone wanna break down 'Radar Detectors 101"
What seperates the good from the bad?
Cheap Models?
Good Models?
Middle Models?
Difference between Bands? More or less?
I am a fairly technically guy.... but I figured I could save some time if I post here because I know some of you are running some.
All I know is Valentine is suppose to be the best.
That thing is liek 300-400 bucks.... Any other models I can get that are just as good?

just be safe and get something that will save your rear. spend the money on the v1, it truly works like a dream. also, if you do get caught, then fear not. for if you send your ticket into them, they will pay for it!
i didnt think v1 still had that guarrantee. I have the 8500 passport x50. I love it, i dont care about the arrows b/c im not gonna just balze thru with the alert going off. I have gotten alerts 3 miles away and another from 2 miles. I have no complaints. I didnt have the money for a V1, and this has close to the same range. Plus i got it on ebay for 250 brand new. I think it was worth the money, how ever if ur local PD has laser, neither are going to save u, laser is precise so its hard to catch it even if its on the car in front, unlike radar. For what ever reason mine works really well on CHP, but it could be b/c its more open. and beware false alarms go off whenever in a shopping center, they just arnt very strong. The automatic doors set it off. OO and the CHP is on Ka band.
wow, i didnt know that they were so good
i just thought they were a waist of money, considering i got a speeding ticket a couple of weeks ago, that coould have been avoided if i had seen the chp bike a mile ahead...
maby i'll save up for one

Yeah its a waste of money and from what I hear the same companies that make the detectors make the radar devices the cops use. So every few years they release a better radar that doesn't get detected so they can make a better detector. In other words you're stuck buying new one after new one so the same company profits on both ends. Not to mention the laser factor and a cop actually see you speeding (its not that hard to tell when someone's going 15+ over)
Just don't ******* speed that much, my insruance rates are high enough as it is...

Well.... I live in Chicago,IL. (very, very urban) I need something that has about 2-3 miles of range that can warn me when COPS are in area. So that i have enuff time to slow down. I take expressway on way home... but I dont speed usally going 60MPH but so is the rest of traffic.
So, this would mainly be used for urban/sidestreets stuff like this.
