Stupid question but I just want to be safe.
I put up my Audi on craigslist for $6500 and I received an e-mail from an interested inquirie. This is how he wants to go about buying it. I just wanted to know any potential scamming involved in this method. I probably sound dumb asking but :o
Thanks i really appreciate your response to my mail am so sorry for the late response .I want you to consider it sold, pls do withdraw the advert from craigslist to avoid disturbance.I want you to know that i will be paying via bank certified check .I will need you to provide me with the following.information to facilitate the mailing of the check . 1.....Full name to write on the check 2.....Full Physical address to post the check 3.....Home & Cell Phone to contact you **I will like you to know that you will not be responsible for shipping i will have my mover come over as soon as you have cashed the check ** Thanks |
Dude, this is the latest scam.
The check is fake. So you will most likely be out the car and the money once the bank realizes it fake. Don't do it - tell them to pay you through PayPal or better yet they cannot take the vehicle until the check clears the bank. |
isn't craigslist supposed to be local buyers.
what you have there is NOT legit. |
yeah definetly doesn't sound legit. thank you for the quick response!

Say you need to talk on the phone first... Ask for a phone #.
Once you get it, you have both an email and a phone #... fill out the online fraud form, it's a government website. Cross your fingers. I've done it a few times. I play the gullible idiot, but act a bit nervous... But if after talking on the phone I feel it's safe, I'll complete the deal. They figure they can convince me over the phone, so they send the #. I obviously never call... but I DO fill out that damn form. |

The few times that i have sold stuff on craigslist, i just post cash only, respond via email, then well exchange numbers, and if they sound legit, we will meet at a neutral location closest to me so its not inconveniencing me at all, has worked every time.

Yep, agreed with mctavish - meet in person, pay in cash. And this is the latest scam as the others said.
