Default Test Drove a 2008 Corvette Today...

For the hell of it, I test drove a 2008 Corvette (base model), $39,950.00 . The salesman let me & my buddy take it out unsupervised, so I hit it around 100mph, and even at that speed, it Bolted like a Raped Ape. Really bolted, actually throwing us back.

That thing pulled so hard on the highway it was scary. It also handled much better then I thought, maxbe even better then my STi and I was told Chevy's now on par with $300K Exotic's. Everyone knows how last year, the old base LS2 Corvette outran the 911 Turbo @ Nuremberg, but how much better is this new 2008 LS3 Corvette? Is Chevy unstoppable now?

For $39K, it seems like a no brainer. Anyone know what the quarter mile time is on the new Vette (LS3)? The Dealer claimed low 12's on the Base, I'm hearing more like 12.5, stock??

My buddy has a 2007 Vette with some aftermarket add-ons. Thing pulls hard and smooth.

The Z06 is nuts. I co-worker of mine just picked one up in that bright orange color. I remember on Top Gear they raced it against some fire and it won/kept up. Crazy.

Doesn't that have the LS7 motor in it? 500+HP?

A new, 6.2L LS3 small-block V-8 is the standard engine in Coupe and Convertible models. It is rated at 430 horsepower (321 kW)* and 424 lb.-ft. of torque (586 Nm)* with the standard exhaust system; with the new, optional two-mode exhaust system, power ratings increase to 436 horses / 325 kW and 428 lb.-ft. / 592 Nm. As a result, the standard Corvette is true supercar, capable of 190 mph. The LS3 with the six-speed paddle-shift automatic is the fastest automatic-equipped Corvette ever, with 0-60 mph capability of 4.3 seconds

Though, with all that power, my friend says he hates driving in the rain. Instead he takes his H3 out.

I would have to agree, you would have to have a light foot to drive something with that much power in the rain

If you think that that is impressive they are working on the 2009 Z07 (or Blue Devil, or SS, or ZR1, or Stingray) That is going to have a supercharged LS7, dubbed the LS9,putting out between 600-650 hp. Also using extensive use of carbon fiber and other light weight materials making it weigh less than the Z06... and i thought my friends 06' corvette was fast
