Unemployed Rant!
I work at a restaurant. I'm a server. I really like serving, but I really hate the place I work. It's a big franchise and I despise the franchise mentality that is beaten into us.
Anyhow, I've been really after this job at a killer little restaurant that's local to me. It's small, privately owned, and they don't own a high-chair (no kids!). A 2 person bill would be 100-140 dollars, though often exceeding 200 dollars. This translates to very good tips. Well, I got the job last week (yay me!). I was really excited, and the owners seemed awesome. I was happy to work for a small restaurant... I was looking forward to helping it get busier by spreading the word. It's kind of a hidden gem... although that sounds cliche. Whatever. I got the job. I quit my other job, and it felt bloody great.
Well, today, I got a call from the owner of said new restaurant... they're closing it down. It was just opened before the new year... and I was well aware that they were struggling to establish themselves... but apparently one very dark phonecall from an accountant or something must have sealed its fate.
Damnit. So, I refuse to beg for my old **** job back... so now I'm on the hunt. Bloody hell. [:@]

man, that sucks. sorry dude. why would they bring you onboard if they knew they were about to go under?
best of luck in finding a new job, hopefully at a sweet restaurant with some large tips coming to you.

He was very apologetic about the situation... I am guessing that they knew the restaurant was losing money, but didn't realize the severity of the situation. I am thinking an accountant told them that they were in danger of jeapordizing their other, well established business... they obviously didn't want to risk their other business, so they shut the doors on the restaurant.
I went to the other local fine dining place (yeah, there's only 2) and they aren't hiring. They'd let me cater for 12 bucks an hour... but I'm not interested in that. Looks like I'm going to have to drive a bit... I can likely find something in a 30 minute radius. Just sucks... I drive 30 minutes now to work... I work twice a week. I wish it could be closer... because it's just a bloody part time job. Ah well. Life goes on!

What's their other business? See if you can't hop on board there, whatever it is.
Not trying to sound like a dad, but any job is a good job. Think of the others out there that would kill to work at the place you left. I went 3 months without a job because i was too damn picky on where i wanted to work. Ieventually took a low-paying job just to get some experience in the computer field. I struggled with my bills and such, buti lucked out1 1/2 years later and found ajob i truly love, with good pay. My 9 year anniversary is next month.

that sucks... i couldn't find a summer job either, until recently when i was planning on moving outta the house with some friends. i took a job as a coach getting paid 30$... so i make bank BUT, the house we were gonna get fell through, and now i'm commuting 50min via expressway to work 2x a week until aug 1 ><
Well I'm not overly concerned as of yet... Tomorrow I'll be out looking again, within my 30 minute radius... there are at least 5 or 6 places that I can apply. If that doesn't work, I'll lower my standards a bit and apply at some franchises again... although I'd never stop looking for a new job, if I end up taking one similar to the one I've just left.
We'll see what happens!
On a side note... and this is unrelated... I am toying with the idea of getting rid of the A4. I kind of want a Passat TDI wagon... and I'm thinking of making it a 4-motion. Not sure of how feasible it is... but we'll see. TDI and 4-motion = good squishee. I guess that project will have to wait until I find work! haha

We have a thing called PRAC's institute in town here - They test real Vs. generic drugs. I got into a study that paid $6000 for 3 weeks confined stay - so I quit my job - the Friday before it started(started on a Monday) they call up and say its been canceled - bastards - had to return a bunch of stuff I was planning on using there to Best Buy.
