problem is most auto manufacturers programing software isn't Mac based. I ran in to the same problem with my BMW and my Nissan. ( borrowed a friends Laptop) Looks like I'll have to get a netbook to run VAG-com. If you find an interface let me know. You can always run windows on your Mac too, although it defeats the purpose of having a Mac. Sorry I don't have the full solution but dual OS is an option.

The software is NOT OS X compatible. I've heard that most have success using boot camp but I'm not a Mac guy so I don't know specifics. Check the Ross-Tech wiki for more info.

I just bought an old iBook from some senior citizen... the thing is MINT. I did a bit of looking but it didn't take long to realize that the vag-com will never work on it.

Netbooks are like $200. Cheaper than a vag-com :P

Do what I did...go on craigslist and find an $80 laptop just for the car. This thing doesnt even have a dvd drive, just cd, but its great for the car. I probably dropped it like 100 times lol

^ ^ ^ Or spend 200 and get a 2.5lb netbook that has 1gb of ram, 160gb HD, and decent specs all around. Probably worth the extra 100 or so vs ancient old laptop that might get 20 mins of battery life. Haha

the software is free

yes free

the cable is what costs money. you can buy an ebay cable and use the "lite" version of the software which still has most of the common features that you need. Or you can purchase the official Ross-Tech interface which unlocks the full version of the software. Not sure exactly what the specific differences are.

You honestly take your chances with a no-warranty chinese imatation cable. Some have good luck, others not so much.
