I saw a brand new, white BMW 3series coupe today that had front AND BACK square style white european plates, but they said US on them (where the blue area with county letter would be), and these things were most definitely legit. I waited the time it took to smoke a cigarette and let my engine warm to see if the owner was going to come out of the store so I could inquire, but no luck. Does anyone know what thats about, im just really really courious as to why that happens. I actually have seen this once before, actually on a new 5 series a couple years ago.

 

Military.

Most of the time people stationed in Europe register their cars as US since a military base is sovereign territory. When they import them into the US after their tour is complete in Europe, their registration carries over.
