alrighty boys and girls i've got a little question about window tint. I'm planning on getting my windows tinted 20% on the sides and 10% on the back. here in texas, the legal limit is 35% on the sides and 5% in the back, so i know this would be slightly below the limit. but with the blistering texas sun beating down on my car and shady characters milling around campus looking for valuable thingsto steal fromcars, i think i may take my chances with the law. Do i really have anything to worry about as far as legal trouble (even though this is only 15% lower than the legal limit)? or will this cause my car to fail inspection? (do they actually measure your tint at the inspection station? or do they only fail your car if it's very obviously illegal? any input would be appreciated

 

I have 20% all around and have never had any trouble from cops (and I live in Houston). You probably wouldn't be a cop magnet, but I would suggest getting the same tint all the way around only because it looks crappy otherwise.

 

I have 27% on the sides and 20% in the back, but with a black interior I can't even tell that they are diffrerent.

 

where i live legals 35 just on front two sides and i have 15% on all sides and 5% in back and it doesnt look crappy like sineo said

 

I've never got busted and in Chicago you can't have any tint %....

 

Find a good tinter and talk to them about the best tint for keeping your car cool - it's not *necessarily* true that the darkest is the best for this....

 

If you can tell the difference, it does.

It really depends on how big the city is that you live in. I had 5% window tint on my chevy truck when i lived in small town Modesto, CA and got pulled over just about every month. Here in sac i had 35% all the way around on the S4, and i have 5% on the A4 all the way around driving for two years now with not even a peep out of a cop. It depends on what the cop has going on at the moment, here in crap hole sacramento they are chasing drug dealers, home invaders, murderers, ect, so they could care less about my window tint. Everyone has window tint on the fronts here, and its illegal past the point of 75% in the front (isn't much) then again, the people in sacramento are bottom feeding scum!
