Today is saturday. I should have went out last night and had some fun, and maybe again tonight. But no, I have 24 hour duty today [&o]. So my weekend goes like this. After working all week, on Friday night I have to go to bed early, cuz I have to be in at 9 am on saturday. I work until 9 am on Sunday. Then I will spend most of Sunday sleeping, only to wake up and start another work week. What a wasted weekend. At least the weather sucks, so I am not missing a nice weekend.

 

Sounds like you are in the military. I'm in the Coast Guard myself, and I have 24 hour duty day's as well. A Saturday duty day sucks to all hell. I feel your pain.

If you're in the military, let me know what branch? I saw you're from germany, so maybe the army?

Yup, army. Saturday is by far the worst day. But at least the place is empty, so there is not anyone b1tching or making the day more miserable than it needs to be.

 

Yikes 24 hour days? How can they do that? You are authorized 8 hours of rest after your duty day of like 12 hours.

 

Well, we get the next day off to sleep, but being that it is saturday you get screwed. And I am not working a chain gang or anything manual labor, just sitting at a desk answering phones and stuff. You just are not allowed to sleep. So I am trying not to PW, but dont know if I can help it.

 

So Army huh? How's that working out for ya?

 

Not to bad if you dont mind LONG vacations from home and family, sh1tty work hours (as proven by today), and an organization that definatly buys into the "Form over Function" mentality. The army doesnt really care how or if something works, just as long as it is pretty, shiny, and appealing to look at. Oh yeah, and the push up suck to!!

 

Sounds like you should have joined the Coast Guard. I have my own office, I fill out pay forms for everyone on my boat, and do administrative paperwork. I still have the duty day thing, but like you said, it's just answering phones and making rounds of the ship. I love my job, and I've been able to see all of Southeast Alaska since I've been here. Are you from Germany origionally, or were you just stationed there?

 

Maybe I should join the Coast Guard. No, not from here, I am from Texas/Oregon. Quite the combo, huh?
