I have heard that the W8 block is not the best engineering decision VW ever made. I found this out cruising several VW/Audi forums, years ago when I was fiending for a W8-Passat to mod on. Everybody, and I do mean EVERYbody warned me away from them. That being said, the problem they warned me against (something having to do with the crank and/or crank-walk IIRC... Maybe hit VWVortex.xom and troll their boards) more than likely would have presented itself long before 187kms, as it wasn't a "all cars of this model have that problem, and more of a "luck-of-the-draw" kinda thing that VW would fight, tooth-and-nail to NOT be culpable for. I think the solution was something simple like: punch-out the counter-weights on teh balance shaft, or, just "punch" them so the counter-weights don't "walk." It's been almost a decade since I cared. So, that's what I know about the W8.

As far as the pair of 3-litre's go, meh... Same engine, so, it boils down to what size car you want, teh trim-level of the respective cars. Or, both.
