Default RS4 arrival.

Well, I haven't posted much, been too busy driving the RS4!

I took delivery approximately 6 weeks ago, and I'm the proud owner of an Avus RS4. VIN number 00030 - so I've got the 30th production RS4 built. Anyone got one lower?

The car is great. It has a very european sound, with that priceless "secondary" crankshaft (?) whine - it sounds a bit like a supercharger, only quiter and higher pitched. It's common in Porsches - I don't really know how to describe it, but it's really kinda sexy. I did have a little bit of fun with a Porsche 911t on the highway - he was able to pull on me, but very slowly (in 3rd and 4th gears). We never got a "good" race, but I certainly was a bit surprised (pleasantly so).

I will try to take some pictures and movies later this week, things in my personal life have been fairly busy, but I certainly won't disappoint.

I lol'ed at secondary crankshaft. I believe you mean the cam-chain

Anyways, congrats man, live up the dream so many of us can not.

"secondary crankshaft WHINE", not secondary crankshaft.

There's like two sounds - the exhaust rumble, and the higher pitched "whining" sound. I wasn't sure what was making that. Is it the cam chain?

The real distinct sound from Porsche, like that mechanical rumble is the cam-chain; at least from what I've read up. I'm pretty sure that's what you're referring to. Other than that... I dunno... was your leg shaking from excitment and jingling your keys perhaps?

P.S. You got me curious so I just watched a vid of the RS4 accelerating. I actually think that whine is the transmission.

Got me beat on the VIN, mine is number 00110. I wonder who the lucky bastard is that got number 1? O'well, 110 is good, right there in the middle so I know it was in the first batch to come to the US (got mine the first of JUNE FYI). 110 means they had past the point of building for the first timers but not to the point where it is redundant. Anyway, congrats on being number 30/only 350 are coming this year and maybe 500 the year after. If there is less than a 1000 built for the US...resale is gonna rock. Damn good question I might add.
The sound of the engine on this thing is insane. Other people I know are like "is that thing supercharged"? One of them is pretty funny he said it sounded like the "back to the future" car "does that thing run off of plutonium"...HAHAHA! I find myself hardly using the S button b/c I like it so much! Damn this car is sick!!!

VIN #1 thru #20-100 (depending upon MFG) are usually what they call 2A prototypes, at least on normal production cars. they are very very very close to production and are used to train the production line people on assembly. they also are used for final evaluations by engineers prior to production cars coming off line and then they usually end up as "long lead" PR prototypes used during the press launch, which usually happens as far as 6 months from the sale date. so even at 30, chrisD may have one of the first "retail" cars on the road!!
