Default "best" s4

what year would you guys say is the best b5 s4 ?.......some people say 2000 due to no esp is that even true? and isnt 2000 and 20001 more prone to problems like smaller oil lines to turbos and f pipe, and tbb? i mean id think the best year would be 2001.5 or 2002 since those were the last made which means they got some/most of the bugs out in comparison to older years.

i have to 2000 and i love it no matter what. it's all about preference. everyone looks for something different. you just have to be ready to take good care of the car

ive heard this same question many times, it doesnt matter. there all pretty much the same. yes the 2001.5's have bigger oil feeds but that did not fix anything, those turbos still blow up maybe it just takes a little longer. tbb are hit or miss, youll either need one or not. its a twin turbo v6 so getting it you should be prepared to deal with some minor reliability issues. overall though there all good cars if taken care of.

Really it comes down to if you like the sport package mirrors & ESP, you have to go 2001+
I hate ESP, I want to control the car, not have it control me.
Since I have an Imola car, the sports interior would look like crap in it.

The other problems, I can see wanting the bigger oil lines, but really should that sway what year to buy?
The F hoes is no biggie, just put the samco on on there, or get a TIP (no F hose)

THe biggest problem I see is with the very early S4's have the alm alloy uprights. So they have a different
control arms & are not as easy to find as the later ones. But that's really not an issue.

Lastly, the badges re different, I like the older sytle badge more.

thats pretty much it, its all preference. i say save the money and buy the cheapest one you can find. all the service is inevitable unless you dont drive it. so you can prolly get the service done with the money you save.

As far as differences. there is quite a few and the 01.5 would be the best to get as far as the latest and greatest

1. The 01.5 has a better intake mani
2. A revised shifter
3. Different MAF hitachi maf (the bosh ones tend to go bad)
4. upgraded VAC system
5. The addition of the ESP ...ESP can be turned off if you dont like it. But it is a great thing to have in the winter if your wife may drive the car
6. The oil lines are bigger but as stated earler that didn't help the turbo life from what any one has seen
7. The badges are different.
8. The wire harnus has some minor changes but only in some spots
9. there are different uprights on the suspention

The 01.5 has quite a bit over the 2000 but they are both still very good cars

he got it all. The better intake manifold eliminates an extra hose that is called the f-hose and is pretty much guaranteed to busrt on a 00 or early 01. Also on a 2000 there is a traction control that you have no control over. My buddy found info on it for his 2000. You need to make a disable switch if you want to disable it. It turns on the ABS light though. Look on AW for this info. His car now has better 60ft times in the 1/4 mile.

Also besides the shifter, the linkage is also upgraded.

Who cares. That color combo is the shiot. Everywhere I go with mine, people always think I have custom interior. My buddies 2000 has 135k and runs 12.28 with stock K03 turbos. He hasn' had a problem. Plus if you go stage 3 ever it doesn't matter, you change the parts that were not as good on the 2000.

DO IT!!
