'00-'01 Differences? Help Requested.
 

I already checked the S4 FAQ and the links contained therein, but I didn't find anything specific as to the differences between the 2000 S4's and 2001 S4's. To my novice understanding, I can't seem to find any differences when reading various posts or doing searches on AutoTrader to find one of my own. What I'd like to know is the following:

1. Are there any exterior/body differences I should be aware of?
2. Performance-wise and ability to upgrade, are they identical?
3. Is realiability more of an issue (more than what the FAQ says) depending on the year?
4. Anything else you think is important to know for someone who is looking to buy one.

I'm hoping to keep my eyes open for one to pick up this coming summer and want to make sure I have as much information as possible before I make my purchase. I already bought the soon-to-be wife a 2001 A4 1.8tq and, with the exception of the price of parts, it hasbeen a pretty good carand is a blast to drive. I, however, feel the need for more speed. Thanks in advance for your help and the information already posted in this forum.

It comes down to ESP or No ESP. If you get the sport package silver mirrors on the later cars.

Wait wait wait... ESP wasn't available until 2001.5? So if I have an ESP button I have a .5?

Thanks everyone. Did a few searches on ESP and I don't think it will really make a difference in my decision making process. Other than that, looks like I'll just be aiming for that low mileage, beauty of a color S4 that's been taken care of. Appreciate it.

Thumper yes..... check your tags if they car was made after january of that year i hitnk it is then it is a .5 :Dim sure 2k will fix me if i was incorrect :D

I have an esp button (and yes it works) but my badges outside and on the steering wheel are the older s4 badge. Is there a way to tell by the VIN # or something more diffinitive than badges and buttons?

Yea you could just look up your vin and it'll tell you everything. Check your door panel, I think it has when it was manufactured on it.

mine rolled off the assembly line 03 of 01 and it has an early 01 shifter in it with esp. Audi said it is probably a 2001 not a .5. true or not?

Mine has manufacturer date of 05/00 and hasESP also. old shifter and f-hose.

Do they all only come with wood trim in the interior? I know I've seen DIY kits available online for other finishes, but I'd rather just have something else already in there. Thanks again!
