I have been DIY oil changing all my life.. This is my first german car, and just want to get any heads up i might need to know.. I have purchased the proper cartrige type Mann oil filter, just would like to see if anyone has a procedure of where everything is located on these cars, or anything else i might need to know. I have been a GM guy all my life, and just need to know the things like where the filter is located, ect. ect. Thanks in advance!

 

not sure again on the V8's but there is a crush washer you are supposed to replace on the oil drain plug however im not sure if it is there on the Newer 4.2

 

Ok cool.. My biggest thing is i have never messed with one of those cartridge type filters.. or where they are even located.. Did alot of searching the net and found nothing

 

im sure some B6 guys will eventually talk...

how do u like the Audi complared to the GM's???

 

It is a hell of a car! very fun to drive, great performance, great handling.. However it is currently for sale because i just dont drive it enough.. Too paranoid im gonna hurt it or scratch it.. so i just keep it all waxed up in the garage

 

lift straight up on the plastic cover on the engine. it's back there. make sure you have enough oil; it takes 9 litres.

 

sweet! is there some big cover that un-threads, or a cap of some sort? Drain plug easy to access?

 

a ford wrench will get the top off of the filter housing; if you need a new o-ring, it should come with the filter. drop the plastic "skid plate" on the underside and the plug is right there and uses a hex key buti can't remember the size off hand. somewhere around 10mm i think.

Well i got the oil changed last night! Thanks for all the help. Not sure why audi cant put that drain plug in an easy to reach location like every other GM vehicle i have ever worked on. Oil filter on the other hand was pretty sweet being right on top like that.. All in all it didnt go too bad
