2005 S4 Headlamp Removal?

Any one know how to remove the headlamp assembly??

Do i need to remove the bumper?

Thanks in advance.

No need to remove the bumper. There are the two torx screws on the top of the housing and then a third that is down in the fender. You can get to it through the hole on the top of the fender. Let me see if I can find a picture for you.

The third screw is right through the hole that is circled in red. After you get that out you can pull the headlight assembly out starting with the outside of the light. Then you can disconnect the wiring harness and it should come right out.

Awesome Stuff. Thanks for that.

Would it be advisable to disconnect the battery before unplugging the HID units. I want to bring the lamp units into the house overnight to dry out. Then I'm gonna re-seal them with a very small amount of silicone.

No you don't. Just don't have the lights on when you disconnect them. LOL

Got em both out now. In fact there are two torx screw/bolts at the rear of the light cluster. Both of which only need loosening not removing. One screw is directly behind the HID packs and the other on the fender side of the housing.

I have the lamp units inside by the wood stove (not too close) and a fan blowing into them. The mist is all but gone after 2 hours. Gonna run a very thin silicone seal around the join in the morning and fingers crossed it will do the job.

Porsche and V-A-G lamps seem prone to this misting up BS. All my BMW's have been great.

Thanks for your help today dude.

nice happy you stuck with the s4 beats owning 325xi right? haha

It beats an Xi for sure. however we still have an X3 and my wife would not give it up for anything. I too am looking for an E46 M3 coupe again. Want to supercharge it!!

Another S4 question?????? Is chipping the S4 a good idea?? Is the car better off for it? Smoother, quicker, more economical? My Duramax GMC truck was way better off chipped. Especially MPG. I get a 24.5 average from it on the highway. Stock is about 19 MPG.

I'm getting about 20 MPG out of the S4 Avant but it's early days and i'm still a bit heavy footed with it still.

Talk soon.
