Default B6 S4 clutch replacement

I am looking at a B6 S4 (2004) with 45,000 on the odometer. The clutch was replaced three months ago.

I have done extensive searches on past threads, and it seems the B5s had more clutch issues than the B6s. If this is the case, would you guys think that a B6 needing a new clutch at 40k miles means the car has been abused??

Also, anything else I should look out for? Seems there is a lot more info on the B5 S4 than there is the B6. Thanks.

Theres alot more of us B5 ers than B6ers on here for one. Second the B5's issues are because the car is so easily moddable for power. It comes stock with 250HP but a chip alone can add 50+ hp and 60+ tq, stock components (like clutch and turbos) dont like to be run like this.... On a B6 you wont ever get that much of a HP increase unless you supercharge, turbo, or use NO2.

Audi had a service nightmare with the B5 so in the B6 they used a N/A v8 which is much less tunable for power. The positive is they gave it more HP stock and its MUCH MUCH more reliable.

In my opinion the clutch should last alot longer than 40k miles. I would take that as a sign of abuse.

Thanks, yes I talked to several Audi service shops. All said that they would consider a clutch replacement at 40k a sign of abuse, or someone who didn't know how to drive a stick... But of course they would say that being employed by Audi Seriously though, 40k seemed awfully low to me.

Audi service costs/reliability issues have really taken me by surprise It seems that everyone is saying if you're not under warranty, you're going to be shelling out big $$$ all the time. Kind of makes me scared to buy a used Audi... although like you said, I've heard others say that the B6 S4 is very reliable????

I bought mine with 42k miles. Clutch is still great at 49k but I have had it in for head gaskets and a leak in some transmission joint. Other than that havent had many issues. Just make sure you get an extended warranty and it will make everything a lot easier. I would have paid about $1000 to fix those leaks but only paid a $150 co pay. Seems like it was abused to be replaced at 40k. If someone hasnt used a clutch on a high hp and torque motor its easy to burn out a clutch if they drive it like their honda civic. Im not sure if I would really worry about too much since the clutch has been replaced. I might check the internals of the tranny but nothing else should have really been affected.

I've had to do a clutch in an '05 Avant with about 30k on it. This was just becuase the guys wife trying to get home in mud season. All his service records were good and it was a great driving car. **** happens sometimes. Get the records and see what the history of the car is like.
