I've read up and down that sticky FAQ and there isn't a centralized place that has issues reported with this particular model. I have seen quite a bit of complaints from people on the previous generation S4 with the turbo.

I am looking to purchase an 04 S4 with 38k miles on it. There is still some of the warranty leftover, and i have the option of going into an audi dealership and CPO-ing it for 2.5k.

So i'm asking all of you that own B6 S4s if you have problems with your car. A lot of people i speak to about audis give a general blanket statement that they are "maintenance nightmares", but no one can really give me any data to back that up. I've also done research on google looking for answers but they are coming up empty.

I know I'm just some newbie wandering in here and asking you guys questions you've probably answered a million times, but I've done some searching on this site and have not found anything. Can anyone help me out here? Otherwise, flame away.

 

My car is an 04 Tiptronic car and it's a good reliable car.

 

None so far but i've only had mine a week. Be prepared to shell out a lot for gas. These cars guzzle it like crazy. Also be prepared for a $100 oil change cause they take 9.5 quarts of oil. They say to avoid the pre 10/03 build date cars so check the door sticker.

 

is 05 a B6? i haven't had any problems with mine.

My dad used to have an '04 s4, and loved everything about it. I have heard the whole "maintance nightmare" thing too, but maybe my dad's was an exception to the rule. He's a sales rep for the entire midwest, which means LOTS of driving, and long distances at high speeds too. He probably put on 30k miles a year, with nothing but milestone maintenance for the entire lease period.

First half year of production is B6. The 2005.5's have the later nose so technically they are B7s.

I love Audi's. They drive like nothing else, and they are gorgeous cars. My A4 is my mule. It's about to hit 80k miles, and it hasn't given me a peep of trouble except for the wiper transmission seizing up. I replaced it for $160, and it has soldiered on without as much as a hiccup.

The TT and S4 are bothlow-mileage garage queens that get driven enthusiastically when they come out of the garage during good weather.

 

Im the third owner of my jan 04 s4 with 48,000 and itis highly modified.I've owned it a year now andI havent had any major problems with the car but I am taking it into the shop on a regular basis for little things such as:

right front control arm replaced, both front control arm bushings replaced
front sway bar needed lube for a wierd groaning noise that I hear is common
front brakes replaced
I still have constant squeeky brakes at low speeds, audi says thats normal...I hate it.
drivers side and passenger sidewindow regulator replaced
drivers side tweeter was falling out
spare tire cover latch replaced

Most of this is minor and I took it in just cuz of warranty work but a extended warranty is not a bad idea I'm still looking into one.
