Was driving in a rain storm last night on my home from the drag strip. The passenger headlight blew out, and now there's moisure on the inside of the headlight. I'm assuming it has a seal leak now.

What kind of bulb should I get for it? I will just replace it with stock bulb for now. I want to go 6000k in the future but now isn't the time in case the bitch gets it in the divorce.

Also, should I take the headlight and heat it in the over, seperate the lens, and then re-seal it with clear silicone? I just don't want to drop $$ on a bulb and have it blow again. I thought it wouldn't blow an HID in the projector if the outer lens leaked, but maybe the hot/cold temp change shocked it.

 

possible but if they are the original bulbs that came with the car then they are old and should be changed anyway. My cars bulbs were old and dulled out so i went on ebay and bought a pair for 29 bucks plus 10 for shipping he has all different color temperatures you just tell him what you want. Your car has D2S bulbs and stock bulbs are 4300k color temp that is what i use and man there is a huge difference between my new bulbs and the old way way way brighter than the old and they look great and he give a 1 year warranty all for 40bucks. I've had the bulbs in for more than a year without one single problem ive been getting bulbs from him for the last 3 years on all my cars. Nice people, if you have a problem they will send you new ones for nothing in return. It kills me how people buy the bulbs off ECS and other sites for like 225 a pair wtf that is crazy all the bulbs come with is Xenon gas inside its a chemical and all bulbs that are hid have the same gas its just brand that is the difference.

I'm about to go switch the bulbs from side to side to make sure it's not a ballast issue.

Anyone have the write-up of how to seperate the headlight housing and re-seal it? I'll take the orange reflector out if I do it, and may darken the background of the housing except around the high beam bulb. I've seen a post on here before of a couple cars with smoked inner headlights and it looked pretty cool!

 

Ok, got the headlights off the car, it's the passenger bulb.

I'm going to do the clear corner mod too. But.... I can't figure out how to get the bulb back into the housing. The little metal clip thing won't tighten down around the bulb to hold it. I think this design is pretty retarded. Any tips?

 

Figured it out, I was trying to clip in the bulb with the connector on it. Guess I'm retarded.

Anyhow, switched bulbs in housings. Both bulbs light up. Left housing lights up on the right side with the wiring. Right housing will not ignite either bulb. So I guess the passenger side ballast is bad. How much am I looking at and where is the best place to order? Damn I knew this would be expensive. Think I'll still upgrade to 6k or 8k bulbs though since I know how to take this all apart now. I am about to drill out the amber lenses and do the clear mod before I put the lights back in the car.

 

Cool, but sucks to hear that the ballast is blown im not sure how much they cost, i would just go on ebay and look for an entire Valeo brand headlight replacement i dont think it cost too much or even a complete aftermarket headlight setup they are usually pretty cheap and come with aftermarket ballasts and bulbs but i dont know if the leveling sensors would work if you went that rout.

 

I've never seen my lights level. If anything, I need to adjust them up a bit to light up the road in front of the car more. They shine low. I was considering some blacked out headlights and they are cheap, but I don't know if they come with bulbs or ballasts, or if i have to swap over, or what. I'd go aftermarket ballast if I can, but then I might have to get creative with wiring it and it won't sit in the light housing itself.

How do they burn out? Could it have been the broken tab on the high beam bulbs door let moisture in the housing and cooked my ballast? That's the only thing I noticed with the light, was one tab broken on the back of the H7's door.

Oh btw I got the clear corner mod done, it looks sick. I'll post pictures if I can get to a digital camera. My ex took our new one so I will have to see if I have an old one laying around I can use.
