Default Brake pad replacement?

How hard is it to change out brake pads and rotors on the B5 S4? I have the 2000 model and I can hear the pad rubbing pretty bad. Any special tools required or is this a DIY wrench job? Thanks!

Default RE: Brake pad replacement?

Thanks, are the rear brakes similar in process? What about removing and/or replacing the rotors?

Default RE: Brake pad replacement?

It’s all easy as pie if you can wrench at least a little. To take the rotors off it's pretty simple. For the front there are two big bolts that hold the caliper on I believe they are 3/4, I usually loosen the bottom one almost all the way but so it's still on then I take the top one all the way off and pivot it down then the rotor should just be able to be lifted out. I do it that way so I don’t have to support the caliper with wire or anything. There also is a bracket that secures the brake lines to the caliper that you might have to take off to get to that top bolt. Install is the reverse.

For the rear it's almost the same. First you have to take the caliper off to do this there are two bolts again; you need two wrenches for this one a 15mm and a 13mm I believe. The 15 will hold the bold closest to you, so it doesn’t spin and the 13 will loosenthe bolt furthest from you. After you get the caliper off you can rest it on a lower control arm. Now you have to take the bracket that holds the caliper in place off. I can’t remember what size the bolt was but there are two of the take them off and set the bracket aside. Take the rotor off (they might be stuck on so take a rubber mallet and go to town) Install is the exact opposite. I you have any questions or if this wasn’t clear enough shoot me a message.

It's kind hard to explain without it right in front of my face or pictures to help you along but I hope it helps at least a little.
