Default brand new to me audi s4 owner

Hey guys, i've been a die hard BMW owner for the past year and i just bought my first audi. im new to this forum but dont worry i understand the concept of the search feature since i was an avid bimmerforum member before. i hate to say good bye to my BMW but im happy with the car i just bought. its a 2001.5 S4, well taken care of, 105k miles which is a little higher than i wanted but it has good history. as soon as i can ill get some pics up but you've seen one s4 you've seen em all so i wont bore you till maybe i get some new wheels or something. annnyway lookin forward to some good times

Funny thing dude. Just bought an 05 S4 Avant. Sold my M3 Cab back in the spring and just cant find another as good as mine to replace it with. So as a stop gap and for work i bought the V8 S4 wagon. I carry a lot of technology stuff and a dog or two so the Avant works out very well for me for work.

Quattro is as i remember it. Very sure footed in the Vancouver rain season but in a way boring. Noting like turning off the DSC in the M3 and letting the back hang out! Especially in the dry! Audi build quality is right up there with BMW, solid feel to everything.

Thankfully the V8 has chains not belts. Real PITA are belts. Costly too in jam packed engine bays.

The V8 is a little thirsty but WTF loads of fun. I'm getting about 20/21 MPG out of the 4.2 where the M3 got at least 24.5 US MPG if not 25 + and i drove it pretty darned hard. If i did this with the S4 i'd be at 15/16 MPG for sure.

Enjoy your ride. I will though still be looking for another M3 Cab. E46 not E92.

ive been able to break my rears out with the s4 in very sharp turns.. havent had any esp or trac control jump in.. so its pretty point and shoot and itll claw its way to wherever you want it.. cant say i have swung the tail out on an m3 yet.. hopefully one day ; )

oh.. and for other preventative maint id keep an eye on the oil leaks... valve covers, cam seals, cam adjuster seals and such... theyll drive you nuts.. hrm. had my auxiliary water pump leak too.. id keep an eye on it..

also look into to tuning it.. pretty cheap if you go through the manufacturer.. around 599 for 315 bhp and 380 ft lbs of torque.. but you can get it for cheaper than that.. lol.. just pm me if you want more info..and "they" say that once you get a tune youll burn the k03s out.. i havent yet .. but just fyi...

I tried to get the back out on my S4 but noting, even with a huge lift off in the corner and flooring it. Like S*#T on a blanket! Audi are for sure the kings of AWD.......sorry Quattro.

I had several Lancia Integrale's back in Europe and they were very good back in the 90's.

I can only imagine the new RS6 and RS4 is absolutely stunning.

haha i know what you mean about the tight engine bay, i saw it for the first time with the hood up and i was like holy shiz how do you work on this! thats one nice thing about my bimmer, tons of room to work on the engine. the guy im buyin from just bought an e46 M3 and has had nothing but trouble. i guess the po treated it like shiz and now he has to fix everything. i cant wait to get out in the snow and push the quattros limits. thats one of the reasons why i wanted to buy the car in the first place. also i really like the flip key. thats what sold it there lol. ill keep an eye on those oil leaks. i also just bought some exhaust wrap to try and help keep the oil lines cool going to the turbos. ive read thats a probable cause for the passenger side goin out. cooler engine bay temps never hurt either. i was looking into the apr chip since its not as aggressive as the giac but ill wait till i get an extended warranty incase i blow the turbos. 2k for the warranty vs 6k turbo replacement....ill let you decide who wins. im still looking for an exhaust. i want the power but i dont want it to loud. especially in the cabin. i like the sound of milltek but its kind of pricey. i was hoping to make my own with a magnaflo but havent heard or seen any on youtube. any suggestions?

Hi! A friend of mine is a total BMW Freak. Right now he has a "purple" M3 Convertible. I like that car too, but i miss the quattro. when he drives my S4, he tells me all the time he is misses the rwd, so everybody likes something different. Audis are my most favourite cars, but when there wouldn´t be audi, i think i would drive a BMW. The new M5 is really badass.

@bottlecap: What about a Remus CatBack? Its not that loud.

haha i have a remus on my bmw. it was great when i first got it but now its been about a year and its starting to wear down and its way louder than it used to be. i guess if i wanted to i could cut it open and stuff some more insulation in there but then its complicated. a muffler should be straight forward, bolt on and forget. should be*
