Buy? 2000 S4 (80K miles)
We've come across a $19,000 S4. It's an 00, checks out on carfax and title check. It's got 80K miles on it, but otherwise it appears new. We'll be testdriving it this weekend.
Can you guys tell me about any problems we should expect if we buy it at 80K miles and what not?
What would be a good price to pull the trigger? With the age and mileage, is $19K to high?
Thanks!

There is a lot of good info on the forum if you search a bit, just did the same with my 2001.5 S4.
Here are my 2 cents
1. 2000 S4 has had more issues than the late model 2001. F-hose is still there, smaller oil lines, other things that are mechanically different. Is this an issue, no but you should be aware.
2. at 80k I would check to see if the timing belt and water pump have been changed. If not there is some overhead there that you will be needing to do almost immediately. If you wreck your timing belt before you change it....wow will it be expensive.
3. 2000 apparently is more of a racers car, not sure what is really different, but it isnt quite as luxury a feel more sport, lots mechanic friends I have prefer the 2000 to the 2001 for this reason.
4. See if you can find out who the previous owners were. Did they let it idle after driving, let it warm up (both big deals with those turbos) Did they drive it hard all the time etc...
Also see the S4 newbie buide it is out there somewhere

80k for 19grand seems a litttle steep. Dealers around me are charging around 16grand, but i found one for 13,500 from a private seller hehe. Im sure yo can find one for cheaper. if not way less miles for that money
I've actually got a silver/6 speed/chipped '00 s4 that I'm going to sell in the next few months. It has 55K miles on it and is in good condition (a few exterior scratches and wheel scratches). The interior is perfect. I'm hoping to get $18K for it...will there be much interest in this car?
