i've seen the guy who owns this car on audizine. from his postings i think he takes rather good care of it. 200k+ is a lot though. make sure the turbos are fresh and there isnt any oil leaking anywhere. ask what maintenance has been done. this thing is gonna be due for its third timing belt change soon.

It'd have to be a STEAL to make an S4 with 200k a good purchase. He's not going to want to take it, but $5000 is more realistic and even at the price, I wouldn't be a buyer.
Only really consider it if you do your own repairs.

I guess you should be looking at what has been fixed and not just upgraded.
By 200k miles and that age, I would guess all, or most of the below would have been replaced:
1) Alternator
2) Starter
3) Battery
4) Turbos
5) Various Steering Components
6) Wheels (possible hairline cracks)
7) Cooling fans (electric and mechanical)
8) maf sensors
9) Various electrical bits, e.g. window motors
10) Clutch, I didn't read if it was manual or auto
etc. etc.
If they haven't been replaced already, you could have lots of bills coming your way. It's nothing about lack of reliability. It's just that components will fail eventually. A well looked after german engine wouldn't be a problem till 300k, but you have All those other bits that can go wrong.
Good luck with your search.
