Help- Brake caliper removal B5 S4

Alright I read all the forums on how to remove the calipers to get to replace the rotor. Working on the front brakes now.

Pull the spring out, take 2 rubber caps off the back of the caliper loosen with a 7mm hex head.

That is where I am lost my 7mm spins like crazy in the round hole, and an 8mm does not fit. What the heck am I doing wrong?

hmm thats weird, i honestly cant think of anything. its been a while since ive messed with my brakes. maybe the last person to work on the brakes cross threaded that bolt

It is supposed to be the one that is surrounded by the rubber right? It is circular not hex. I am at a loss here.

See image below.

anyone?

I have the 7mm in the carrier pin (circular) and it just spins, does not even attempt to catch on anything so there is no way that it is stripped. 8mm does not fit, so that is not the issue. Any other ideas to get the caliper off so I can replace the rotor?

The bolts your getting at are not the right ones to take the caliper off. The caliper bolts are uncovered and If I remember correctly they are a 16mm bolt (could be 18mm though).

I think its just two 22mm bolts on the back of the caliper then it falls off. Mine was a bitch to do

shoot i was gonna say 17mm.. how bout them apples?

Super easy i take mine off daily just for kicks. lol look for the larger bolts underneath the ones you are looking at a little more difficult to get to, I believe they are 16mm as well. Should be difficult to break loose and once off be careful not to let the caliper just fall it can snap a brake line or mess something else up.

im doing the same project and got stuck at the same place, I began to wonder if the bolts inside the greay boots are to be taken off with a torx, but now someone said those aren't even the ones to take off the caliper? then what are they for?
