how much hp can a tip hold already searched
from what i found...via searching!!!...was a tip will handle around 400whp with out any major problems. the S4 is a very stout machine, i wouldnt worry about it unless you plan on spending loads of money going with huge turbos, fueling, ect.

BUT! It is quite a well known fact that Tips are VERY underrated in their power handling capability, and the 313 lb/ft number is just an Audi recommendation. Obviously it's not gonna blow up if you hit 314 lb/ft. There are guys out there with K04s set ups that haven't changed much in their transmissions. (Most have added a TIP chip and perhaps a stronger valve spring. Some have also upgraded the torque converter, which is desirable from both a performance perspective AND a durability perspective)
So, what I would say is that with 400whp, you're going to be pushing the upper limits of what a stock tip can hold, because you'd be forcing over 400 lb/ft of torque through it, so I'd be a bit cautious. It IS a strong transmission, though, so don't worry TOO much about it.
thanks for the info guys now on another question has any one had there tranny built by level 10 i live in jersey so if i needed to go there its no biggy jus curious on how ppl feel about it
Yeah, Level10 has a few packages that you can do. Most people seem to just change out the torque converter to a higher stall (and more durable) unit, and maybe change the valve springs to stronger ones. A full Level10 strengthening will cost you a hefty chunk of change (around $3000-$4000) so most people don't really have that much money to spare on just the transmission. I usually hear good things about Level10. They company is very well known in the non-euro import world, especially with the infamous twin turbo supras.
If Level10 doesn't work for you, you can check out IPT performance. They are also in NJ.

i think 2ks4 should chime in with this question cause from my understandin a tip can hold alot more then you guys are saying but im not 100% sure..wait for 2ks4 to answer and he should answer all your questions..

Like I said, the rated power numbers for the tip are relatively low (313 lb/ft of torque), so in theory every single tiptronic owner that has chipped their car should have had their transmission blow up the second they floored the gas. Reality is different, however, and the ratings that Audi publishes for the tip are quite underrated. I'm sure the tip can hold 400whp (420+ lb/ft of torque at the wheels, 500 or more at the crank) but I would not advise it without some upgrades. 400 wheel horsepower means that you're pushing very nearly 500 at the crank, which brings the torque up to around 500 as well. I personally would never advise someone to put that much power through it without SOME upgrades. The tip chip does little to actually strengthen the transmission. It does relieve some stress because of the better managed shifts, but when you've got nearly twice as much power going through it as you did originally, the tip chip isn't going to save your transmission.
I too am interested in what 2kS4 has to say, though.
ok well i never said that 2ks4 would come on here and tell you the tip can handle 1035.5583 lb/ft of torque..what i said was he will come on and discuss the tip with you guys cause he has a tip with alot of mods done to it ..because i remember that he was just talking to someone else about the tip in these cars and he had a very good understanding on them and could probly tell you what has to be done to them or if they can handle it..his tip i think hasover 300hp at the wheels so he prolly has close to or maybe more then 400 lb/ft ..
