I'm looking to buy a 2001 s4 from a dealer, what sort of things should I make sure the car has, as far as safaty and options that make the car handle better the car has 60,000 miles is their anything wrong with that? As far as the drivetrain is it strong enough to handle 600 hp launches and that sort of stuff, are their after market up grades for it to control the ecu for free tuning if I was to but a twin turbo kit from atp. Also I read awhile back their was a upgrade for the tranny or haldex or something for the s4's below 2002, and the 2002 s4 came with some sort of upgrade to the drivetrain? Thank you.
well, I HIGHLY suggest you read the FAQ sticky. At 60k nothing really major, but T-belt, h20 pump and dv's should be done before 90k.
Good luck getting 600 awhp, that would take some seriously deep pockets, I have no idea if the d-train could handle that but my guess would be a resounding no.

Read the FAQ, will answer everything. If not, do a search, this is covered at least once a day it seems...
As for getting 600 hp... blunt answer is no. Period. The fastest S4 (that I'm aware of) is the VTG killer that makes 606 hp. Mind you this isn't using a stock block, you could probably buy a Lamborghini for how much only was sunk into it, and it is NOT a daily driver; the interior is completely stripped for weight reduction.
Shoot for stage III which will be over 400 hp, IMO thats plenty fast!

Is their a rebuild for the s4 tranny, to make it stronger? Whats the maxwhp and wtqthe tranny can holdto the wheels for the 2.7tt? What about a6 2.7tt tranny is it any stronger than the s4 2.7tt tranny? Whats the max whp wtqthe a4 2.0t can take to the wheels? Thanks for your input.
I'm assuming you're talking about an automatic, there is an option I know of to rebuild it through stage 10 transmission I believe but haven't heard of many people doing that. Get a manual and its a lot easier to get a strong clutch and flywheel to handle stage III. 2k S4 had an automatic he might know more about it if he's not off in the porsche forums. I'm not sure if it the same tranny in the A6 and S4 but I'd imagine the S4 would be stronger, but it definitely has a strong torque converter because it has a much broader power band than the A6 2.7.All in alla stage III kit is not designed for a tiptronic.
I'm not sure about the 2.0T's since there arn't any real kits out for the A4. The A3 FSI 2.0 is capable of 380 hp; again it has to be a manual and the clutch must be upgraded.

What about those stock turbos on the s4, what can those turbos be pushed out to with mods, when talking about whp and wtq? Also what is the deal with the gt28r's kit from atp, is it really going to be released in 6weeks, does anybody know what the price will be? One last thing when was the alcantra released as an option for theb5 s4's?
The K03's are max out around stage II and arn't extremely reliable. The GT28r kit looks awesome but you will definitely be digging deep to buy them. A stage III kit will run you close to $8k but does not include all the other necessary upgrades to accommodate the bigger setup. I would say to go from stock to stage III it would cost you easily upwards of $15k; this is getting everything done right and parts required to keep the car intact. As for the GT28 kit, my guess would be over $12k but I haven't been keeping track of the kit...
Yea i been doing some thinking, and searchingon thetwin gt28r kit, i think it will be to laggy on the s4, if a twin turbo kit is paired with gt20r's or something along those lines it would be much better suited for a 2.7tt s4, and I would have interest in that sort of setup. Are their any single turbo kits available for the v6 s4 yet, if not how long is the expected due date on one. If a well built single turbo kit, becomes released for the v6 s4 I would have more interest in that sort of setup for it's quicker spool up.
ok, first off, there are over 1000 hp s4's out there..... but again driveability and reliability come into play.... for a good dd you would want to go k04 or gt series around the 400 whp mark.....
i am sure you could find someone to fab up a single turbo kit, but mass produced there isn't alot out there right now...... you might look over on zine as those guys are insane when it comes to mods.......
you do realize that you have to pull the motor to swap turbos?
and i would talk to the guys at the dealership when you buy the car about what maintenance has been done and see if you can get them to do the tb/wp part of the maintenance so you don't have to worry with it in 15,xxx miles......... and you would be able to get them to throw that into your financing..... or have them knock that off the price if you wanna wait, if it hasen't been done....
but your 2 best friends on here are stickies and search buttons

WOW this thread is crazy! haha
what do u want the car for? DD, track, or drag car?? that's the first question.
There are some 900hp+ cars out there now. 600 is soon going to be the norm, lol, with these GT kits that are seeming to be coming out now once past the R&D part. i hear $15,000 is going to be a base price from what I have seen and read on other forums. but i think once you go past a certain barrier, you will have to build the motor $$$ to go 8-900 hp+
i can't go into it, because I have no intention(yet) to go that fast, so im not the guru.. go read around AW and AZ esp.
butat 60K the other guys got what you needto be done.
