I just bought an S4 today. 2000 S4, Silver with Black interior, 71k miles, 6spd manual. The car has always been completely stock and well cared for, or so it seems. It had the timing belt, water pump, and tensioner replaced at 61k.

Anyway, I had the car checked out before I bought it and the mechanic said everything looked good except a couple small cracks in the front right control arm. The mechanic said it was pretty normal in the S4. Is this true?

You will probably have to get those control arms replaced soon. They shouldn't be cracked, though it is normal for them to go out. It's just one more thing to take care of.

if you wait too long with these cars to fix stuff

then your gonna have big EXPENSIVE problems haha

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I am about to get my car chipped today. Anyway, barrier said it will cost $1,400 to replace the control arms... is that accurate?
