Default New '00 B5 S4

Hey folks. I've been in my 2000 S4 now for about a week and things are looking promising. I bought it at 98k for 8800 because after driving it all it seemed to need is breaks and maybe a left headlight since it won't stay on. I read somewhere on the site that if I hear a high pitch jet engine turbine like sound from time to time, I might have a bad turbo. Please say it ain't definitely so! Any info would be helpful before I get the 100K service done. Should I find me another one?

You wont have any doubt your turbo(s) are blown. Its normal to hear the spooling, especially when cold, worry when you hear screaming babies / dentist drill.

Is the timing belt done yet?

Well the carfax shows no record of the timing belt being changed which is why I want to get the 100K done very soon. I imagine it'll cose me somewhere in the area of a cool 1500-2000 right?

I wouldn't depend on Carfax to give you a good details on service history. Call whoever you bought it from wether it's a dealer or a private sale. You should be able to back track to the service records. Also, if it was done by an Audi Dealer (which, if it was done at all, it was prolly by a dealer) you can give the VIN to the dealer and they should be able to tell you exactly was has been done throughout the life of the car.

If you're looking to have the dealer do the service, it will prolly be around $1600-$1800 depending on wether or not they use lube Try an independent shop that does good work, or, (my recommendation) DIY

Yeah, you can never had too much lube... Good advice, I'm taking it to the dealer in the morning to get the radio unlocked so I'll see if I can get some information. I wish I had the wherewithall to do a 100K service..is there a manual you can recommend for smaller jobs?

I definitely plan on getting the Vag and Bently manual. Can the Vag tell me what my radio code is?

the code should be in you bose manual. its a 4 digit code. when you turn your radio is will read "SAFE". Press and hold the P-Scan and RBDS buttons until "1000 " shows up. Using the preset buttons press preset button 1 until you get to the first number in your 4 digit code. press the preset 2 buttopn until you get to the 2nd number in the code and so on. once it is done press and hold the P-Scan and RBDS buttons until it oges back to the safe mode, in a short while it should be ready use.
Jet engines no. dentist drill yes! haha. it could be on its way?

You never said what colour, that's the most important part! Also if you want to the dealer will pull your radio for free, all they need is the serial number on the back and call it in to find the code.
