You pretty much summed up all my concerns, which makes this kinda tricky. The nice thing about a factory warrantyis I knowyou can argue and get away with more when it comes to mods, where as with an aftermarket-extendedthey're really looking to cover their @$$es...One is more likely to get stuck with the bill, eventhough you paid good money for the coverage.I'm not too concerned about turbo/engine/transmission problems quite yet (I have repressed these utterly painful thoughts), but more along the lines of electronics and creature features: power lock/seat/window motors, dashboard pixels, Boseradio, sunroof,a/c, etc.

It might just bebetter to just drop the cash in a CD like you said. When it all comes down to it, it's all just a gamble anyways... Might'as well get some interest off it!

You are TOTALLY worrying about the wrong things! The engine & drivetrain are where the problems are. The rest of the car is solid!
Really the only big ticket items are....
1. Turbo's
2. 2nd gear syncro
3. Leaking valve cover area (lots of labor to change $25 worth of seals.

That's really about it, all the other stuff is minor, or wear items that a warranty will not cover.

Well, when I said I was "not too concerned quite yet", I figured @ 12K miles the turbos/engine/transmission are still all probably in good shape (for atleast the next 30K miles or so). I just noticed that the power door locks pop up/down really slowly, and it got me paranoid. Maybe that's just an S4 thing...

LOL, the milage on the car has no bearing on turbo failure. My worries would be the fact that it's a 6yo car and maybe had one oil change?
To low milage can be just as bad as high milage! Hopefully all the fluids are not OEM, and have been changed!

Yea, the locks are slow, they work on air pressure. The pump is in the trunk & it has been known to crap out. But it's a cheap easy fix.
