Popping noise in front end when turning

so my 01 s4 is making weird popping noises when i turn, i have only noticed it when there is snow on the ground and im thinking it may be the front arm control gasket or joint that is old and dry and gets frozen until there is enough
tension to pop it loose?? I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could let me know if they know whats it is. Has anyone had this problem or can anyone tell me how much it would be to repair this?? thanks.

Based on past experience in Alaska with a front wheel drive Subaru, I'd say your problem is the CV joint. The problem is the rubber CV boot freezes, then cracks during use, sand gets inside and suddenly it's causing joint problems, which you find out because you can hear the clicking as the wheel turns when you are turning right or left.
Requires boot removal, joint cleaning and regrease, and a new boot to be put on. Some say you have to remove the wheel assembly, some say to use a sealeable boot that doesn't require assembly removal.
Did it myself on the Subaru and didn't remove the assembly; I removed the shaft, slid on the boot backwards and replaced the shaft; then secured the boot clamps. Cost was something to do on a 10 below afternoon in the auto hobby shop in Fairbanks, and parts.
It's road sand that usually gets in there, but I'd guess just about anything particulate could interfere with the joint and result in the clicking you hear.

^^ My first thought too.. CV joints will 'pop' or 'clunk' while turning when bad.

cv as well. try rmeuropean. they have good prices there. axles are only 100 bucks if you want to replace those instead of just the joint.

maybe???

check your upper control arms, the bushings may be bad. I have had the same issue in the past few months, expecially here in colorado, the high-low temps wear on the rubber boots.
