Default rear transmission seal leak questions

2000 S4 Tiptronic
Ok so i have the bentley dvd manual for my s4. Get the car on the lift and I see tranny fluid all over underneath where the driveshaft meets the transmission and it drips on my exhaust stinking like hell.
According to my dvd this repair is called replacing o-ring for driveshaft output flange.
First thing I need to do it says is remove front exhaust pipes.
The manual shows me how to do this (remove front exhaust pipes) on a 1.8 but not in that wording for the 2.7T
I have a few questions before I start this repair. I have the ring and the gear oil and a siphon pump to get it up in there
after the repair.
Is this an extensive process removing the front exhaust, and Can it all be done from under the car?

Do I need plain old metric hex sockets to remove the shaft from the flange?

Once the shaft is unbolted and moved to the side what size is the nut in the middle when I remove the flange?

This is actually an easier job than you might think. You can do everything from under the car, just un-bolt the exhaust clamps and seperate the two. This is all you have to do to the exhaust.
Take off the heat shield (T35 torx i think) then use a 5mm allan socket to remove the shaft bolts. (These need to be replaced after taken out) Its very easy to strip the allan bolts so a good whack with a hammer is needed to seat the socket.
After the shaft is seperated from the transmission, remove the T45 torx bolt in the center of the tail housing and pull it out. Now you can see the seal, pry it off with a screwdriver and tap the new one into place. Install in reverse order.

There is also no need to lower the transmission if the Bentley manual says to do so.

Well you still need the T35 torx socket to get the shield off first, and the prop shaft bolts are allans that you can get from the dealer.

There is no heat shield so some one was previously goofing around under there. Thanks again for the help.

if the driveshaft is anything liek the 6speed where it meets the tranny. then its a special torx its not the 6 point, its a 12 point torx, however never looked at the driveshaft bolts on a tip so idk.

Its nothing like a manual, an automatic is actually easier.

Ok was broke as **** at the beginning of this post. So was planning on getting the prop bolts this week. I have had a P0741 ( T/C clutch performance or stuck off) code on and off since I had this car 2 months. Went for groceries today and notice rumbling during downshifts. Then car is slipping in first or second when entering parking lot. Almost didnt get it home. the rear tansmission seal leak is gear oil correct and not ATF? Was wondering if ATF is low as I have not had it checked or if its now time for that torque converter. I think its fucked though and going to be parked until after I pay my taxes.

I am in the middle of replacing the seal on my car but I can't get the driveshaft seperated from the tranny. Is there something I'm missing? I removed the exhaust, heat shields, driveshaft mount and the bolts holding the shaft on but it wont pull out. Any tips???
