S4 Timing belt DIY pics
In case you have ever wondered how difficult it is to change your timing belt yourself here are some pics that will give you an idea what it is like. (check out www.audidiy.com for detailed instructions). It took about 10hrs of labor and $360.00 in parts. This is the kit from ECS and included
- Timing belt
- Serpentine belt
- Water pump
- Thermostat and o-ring
- Timing belt idler pulley
- Timing belt tensioner
- Timing belt hydraulic tensioner and brackets
- G12 coolant
- 2 cam seals
- crank seal
I did not use the fan remover chopsticks or the cam locker bar. If you mark every thing right it was no problem. Good luck.

...and all in an apartment parking lot. You're my hero!
Good job and thanks for sharing the pics.
Do you use 15-w30 in your S4? Just wondering I noticed it on the box.
EDIT : Nevermind I looked at the pic again and zoomed, the "SAE" looks like a "1"

I started at 10 am on a Saturday and worked until about 7 (it was dark) and I had everything buttoned up except the bumper (which takes 2 bolts to attach!) and the undercarriage plastic piece. All in all it could have been 1 day but I started late.. so it took me 2 days. Man do I need a house and garage!
Your the man hahah in the fuckign parking lot. hahaha That would be awesome to see in person. Some of the people arounf you must ahve been like wtf, what is he doing. Nicely done not al that bad just takes forever the first time and a little annoying after a while.
its always a fun project. I did my 12v A4 on the street in front of my house in baltimore. my neighbors admitted to me afterwards that they thought there was no way in hell i was getting the car back together.
congrats on saving yourself a ton of money.

I had to change the starter in my Wife's car in a grocery store parking lot...yours looked worse, ha.
One nice thing about living close to your parents.....a garage. I'm going to do my TB this weekend hopefully.
