s6 ??

Hi,
I'm trying to confirm some information about a 2002 s6. Is it possible to locate a new cv joint for the front of the drive shaft, propeller shaft not axle shaft? Is a GKN K1080-26948, fits an earlier quattro, suitable? Is the cat the same for the a6 v8 and the s6? My little parts finder gives the same part number for both: 4B3 254 550 GX right and 4B3 254 500 GX left. Thanks....

Cat converters are the same, don't know about the prop shaft though.

No, that would seem to be the axle shaft. I'm looking for the cv joint that goes on each end of the propeller shaft, connects the transmission to the rear diff. It would only be found on quattro models. The part number I have is for an earlier quattro but it may be the same piece, probably the same as the w8 VW's as well. Thanks and if you have the page that pictures the quattro front to rear drive shaft please post it.

No, that looks like the rear axle half-shaft. It would connect the diff to the rear hubs. Hollander calls it the rear drive shaft and defines it as the shaft connecting the transmission out put to the rear diff. I like to call it a propeller shaft to avoid the confusion caused by calling half-shafts drive shafts which seems to be all the rage these days. Before front wheel drive became so common everbody knew what a drive shaft was, now days half-shafts are called drive shafts 90% of the time. Thanks for the help, we could get to the right bit by process of elimination. I think I have found a used rear drive shaft, of course it may well be one of the rear half-shafts and not the propeller shaft at all. I have toconfirm it is the correct shaft first and then with any luck I'll get the s6 on the road. Again, thanks.....
