speeding ticket...
Don't recall the specifics, but you may be able to ggogle them. Seems a judge recently threw out a reckless driving charge because it was speeding, and therefore not considered reckless based on the circumstances. Kinda makes sense... you are driving a vehicle capable of cruising at 140mph+, and they consider it reckless to drive 74mph? Helloooooo!!
found a lawyer... he charges $500.00 flat rate, not including any appeals... he stated that more than likely he can get my ticket reduced to something much lesser (like 1-9mph more than speed limit)... given my relatively clean driving record prior to this... thanks for all the info, court date is February 9th, i'll let all who care know of the outcome!
thanks again

In Virginia (I hate it too BTW) - I am to understand that anything over 80 (in a 55 mph) potentially means loss of license (supension) and anything over 90 potentially means jail time. Judges have discretion - but for many this is the rule they use (and every mph over 90 is an additional day in jail and such). A lawyer is useful because he shoudl know which judges are strict vs perhaps more lenient and you should use your continuances wisely. Additionally you should take your car to a (freindly) shop and document the fact that your speedo is at least 6-7 mph off (showing slower then your actual speed) - etc - everything helps - and best of luck. Oh and there is no requirement for radar for reckless or to charge you with a certain speed. Your lawyer shoudl try to plea the reckless awa regardless and he/she should also closely scrutinize the police speedo calibration - if it has not been updated within so many days prior to your citation the entire case could be thrown out or certainly reduced (I managed to get a 94 in a 55 reduced to a 74 this way)
Several years back I got hit for a 91/92 (I forgot) in a 45...my record was clean for 9 years....I didn't get a lawyer (mistake) as I thought heh- clean record - no traffic was around etc - they can give me a break eh? - not. I paid big time and lost my license for several months - prosecuter kept railing on about jail time - meanwhile I was saying that he was nuts (I was in total shock)...anyway it corresponded with an operation (that I knew was going to happen days after the trial) that kept me in the hospitol and then home for most all of that period - and I eventually had work and all sorts or rehabilitation destinations (heck I probably could have listed several bars and been given permision) to go to that allowed me to drive for the remainder (a few weeks at most) - so not so so bad - however - its now on my record...and I had a 1 year probationary period - where I was libal for many more hundreds of dollars and additional suspension if I got a ticket within 1 year...well 1 year and 2 days later....oops...

Here’s another story. My brother has a 2001 Chevy Truck with like 14 inches Lift and 38 inch tires and 22 inch Rims. He saw a cop coming at him head on in a area he isn’t familiar with. He pulled over to the side like you are suppose to do. When he passed, my brother proceeded to accelerate not knowing he was 10 ft from a stop sign. Next thing he knows he is half way through the intersection and he thinks about stopping but he figures its to late now. Another cop that didn’t have his lights on was also going where the first cop was. When he saw my brother he whipped a U-Turn and pulled him over. My brother told him he wasn’t familiar with the area, it was night time, and he had just pulled over for the other cop and he was sorry. This cop wasn’t listening to a word he said. He gave him tickets for Bumper height, Tinted windows, Tires sticking out to much, Illegal tinted tail lights, Running a stop sign, and on top of it RECKLESS DRIVNG. My brother took it to court and got it reduced to Stop sign and tinted windows. Bet no one can say they got a reckless doing 5 mph.
NE suburbs of St. Paul Minnesota. All of my brothers and I have racked up a nice little record with the state troopers here. THEY SUCK The should be busting people for doing stupid **** like driving in the carpool lanes alone or cutting people off not for doing 10 over the limit like ive gotten busted before for.
court date is in two days, and i am really getting worried about this now... i think there may have been some confusion about my cruise being set at 74... YES, my cruise was set at 74 but, for those of you from the VA/MD area, you know that the left lane is not for passing around here... i feel like i'm back in japan, you can get around more cars in the right lanes, retards around here have no common courtesy on the roads... they feel like the own the road... even if i am the only damn car on the road, at 2am, i drive in the right lane unless i'm passing someone, then to the left i go... its such a damn disgrace to see that all these people have NO IDEA HOW TO DRIVE...
my mother lives in PA now, and i take 95N to 476N, 4 lanes, but even in rush hour, the left lane is usually wide open except for your occasional *** in the left lane... its amazing how driving tendancies change depending on where you drive...
i still miss driving in europe and japan... good lord, they don't have patrol cars except in areas where racing is very popular (and usually the patrol cars are not usually easily out run, ie... Skyline GT-R's, Benz AMG's etc...) but they do have speed camera's set up, and half the time they aren't even loaded with film because they are so expensive!!!
sorry for the long response, just figured i'd vent... i seriously want to just drive on 95 one day with a video camera set up like patrol cars have, and record all the retards on the road that can't drive, or as soon as they merge on to the highway jump over to the far left lane, and just "chill" there, not looking in their rear view mirror's for people driving FASTER THAN THEY ARE, JUST MOVE OVER FOR 2 DAMN SECONDS AND LET US BY!!!!!!!!
