Squealing noises
Ok when my car has been outside in the cold for prolonged periods when I start it up it squeals really loud. Lately, since its been so damn cold it lasts even longer - talking about 5 minutes. I have heard that the timing belt may be a source of this problem, but this is absurd its very loud and even when I start driving it keeps making the noise. Shifting into gear also becomes a problem at first as it is very stiff. Do other people have that and live with it??!? Thanks.

RE: Squealing noises
Before you start it next time, spray some silicone on the back of the serp. belt if you can. If it doesnt squeel, found your problem. If its and 04 isnt it under warranty still? Take it to the dealer, let them fix it, you paid enough for the car.

RE: Squealing noises
Don't have silicone handy. It is under warranty wanted to know if this was common. But I am going to take it in, def paid enough. Thanks

RE: Squealing noises
It sounds like your belts squealing, take it into the dealer and have them fix it under warranty.

RE: Squealing noises
Well sure enough they said tension belt needed to be changed, but I also told them to try the transmission cause I was having problems from 1st to 2nd gear. They said I needed a brand new tranny, "internal problems" is all he told me. I am glad its under warranty, but I am worried why would a car with 16k miles need a new tranny. What a mess....

RE: Squealing noises
I'd say surp. belt or a pully from the cold. I'm having that with my A6 and know it is the surp. belt. just hadent had time to do it.

RE: Squealing noises
Well the dealer said the pulley appeared to have been the culprit. They changed that and the whole tension belt too.
As for the transmission... they had to pull out the old one and received a new one. Said the clutch plate was defective and believed that was the sourse of the mechanical problems in the tranny. They received a new tranny and clutch plate, and test drove it. Said the new clutch plate was bad, and sent for ANOTHER plate and had to pull tranny back out. They call me yesterday to say its done.As I am driving home, the 4th gear is making a whining noise, and while on highway in 6th gear it would pop back out into neutral on its own. It did this repeatedly so I just drove in 5th. I turned it back around and took it back to the dealer. 2 weeks in the shop and still no car.... |
RE: Squealing noises
that blows, is the cold weather noise a squeek or does it sound like a high pitched whistle? if it sounds like a whistle have the dealer hook up to their vag-com and maually turn on the secondary air pump. dont let them guess, tell them you want to hear it for yourself.

RE: Squealing noises
Hopefully it's the belt & not a tensioner pulley.
I would take it in, on EVERYTHING since it's FREE! Once you start paying for it, everything will change. There is "belt dressing" you can pick up at any auto parts store. A lot of it might have to due with the cold. The trans is normal, I would put some Redline or Motul fluid in there, the cold shifting will be much better, but the Dealer will not do this for you, it's "lifetime" fluid (crock of SH!T) |
RE: Squealing noises
well as I said, they already changed the parts. And at this point, I would glady take back my original car, but they have already taken out the tranny sent it to audi, got the "new" one - which isn't new, and that tranny made 6th gear pop out, so now they are going to order another tranny. So in the end, maybe I should have just lived with it, don't think it will come back the same. I am pissed...
