TIPTRONIC QUESTION???
I have a 2000 audi s4 auto/tip with 75,550 miles completely stock. I will be chipping and adding exhaust/ Piggie's soon.
If im stopped at a light and i want to race someone lets say 0-100. Whats the best shift for the tiptronic? Redline?
And is it bad to hold the break and gas at the same time to get a little jump off the line??

do NOT hold brake and gas at same time. heats up your TC (weak point on the TIP) too much, and then that is an expensive fix. Just floor it, and shift before redline, just a little, cuz the turbos are petered out by then. or just leave it in auto, as long as its on the floor, you will be fine.
Just from my short experience I would say you should hold the brakeand VERY slightly press the gas. Also you probibly want to shift well before redline because it takes a second to actually have the gear change and like blue_s4 said your peak hp/and torque will come well before redline.
It's generally ill-advised to hold the brake and give it a little gas, even if only just for a little bit. The acceleration gain from "very slightly" pressing the gas and brake torquing is microscopic, at best. It puts ALOT of strain on the TC while not giving any benefits as Blue_S4 said.
With the Tip, I've found it's best not to floor it right off the line because it pulls a bit harder if you rapidly ease into the gas, rather than immediately engaging the kickdown "button" behind the gas pedal. Also, sometimes I'll just leave it in D for 1st gear, because the transmission feels more reactive to pedal movement in D, rather than in Tiptronic mode. I've found myself at stoplights in Tiptronic mode, given it more than half gas and the tranny will lazily shift to 2nd way before I want it to, whereas in D, 1st gear seems to be more accessible.
What I've found with the transmission also, is that it's best not to rely on it to do your shifting for you if you're racing from a roll. From a roll, I highly advocate putting it into Tip mode and doing the downshifting and upshifting on your own, as necessary.
To be honest, the only big weakness of the Tiptronic transmission is the lack of the ability to launch from a stop like a manual with a clutch can. Racing from a roll, though, a Tiptronic should not be much slower at all than a 6-speed as long as you take care of the shifts yourself.

Simply put... DO NOT power-brake it andDO get a TIP-chip.
Then learn when it likes to shift strongest.
The secondlargest weak point to aTIP's performance (second to the launch) is the ignition retardation that takes place between shifts. Which feels as though the your letting off ofthe accelerator.
Making it shift quicker willreduce some of this action from the ECU.

I think the moral of the story is you should have bought manual! I mean if you were a real man...

just floor it in Auto mode, your not going to do much better than that anyway. Brake boosting is terrible for your car, redlining it wont do anyhting either because your turbos actually lose boost in high rpm's
