Tire sizes
Hey guys, I'm sure this has been beaten to death. But here it goes anyway.
My F1's are shot as some of you may know. Im looking at new tires and found Nexen N3000 tires for pretty cheap. I was wondering: A. What people think of that tire. B. if I will have any problems with hitting the uppers with a slightly bigger stance (235/45/ZR17) I ask this because I am planning on installing H&R lowering springs in the car. |
RE: Tire sizes
Honestly..ive never heard of nexen for tires before....you may want to research them..
with 45 width, you will be close could very easily rub...id stay with 35 |
RE: Tire sizes
Iv never heard of Nexen either.
I have 235/40/18 on H&R and bilsten and they do rub occasionally. When you increase width (first number, width of the tire in mm) you have to decrease the aspect ratio (2nd number is the sidewall as a % of the width) otherwise the overall diameter is larger and your speedo will read lower than your going and rubbing will be made worse. If you make the aspect ratio too small the overall diameter will be smaller and your speedo will read high, and your car will sit lower to the ground. you want to be within like +/- 2 or 3 % of the factory size, just make sure you get the right size |
RE: Tire sizes
Thanks addict..I dont know why i didnt write out fully 235 and 245... its what i meant, but prob awful confusing with the %'ges

RE: Tire sizes
Thanks guys. HP how bad do they rub? only when the wheel is cranked and speed bumps? orrrr what? I'm in VT so Bumps are a normal thing. I think you feel my pain over in NH though,.

RE: Tire sizes
Ya i might feel it if i have 4-5 people in the car and hit a bump. Brake reeeeally hard from high speed. Take a really hard turn at high speeds, go down through a dip like the bottom of a valley very very fast.
It dosnt happen on the day to day, just the very extremes. 235/45/17 would be the way to go, or roll your fenders get 255's and hubcentric wheel spacers |
RE: Tire sizes
oooo I like that idea
|
RE: Tire sizes
Also, when I go 235 wide, should I go down to a 40 sidewall?
|
RE: Tire sizes
I went with 235/45/17 Falken Ziex ZE-912 with 10mm spacers on the rear. 45is going to have less change in how your speedo reads vs 40. Going down to 40 might be the safer way to goif you are going to lower your car. Just be prepaired that your speedo will be off by a little bit. Take a look with this Tire Calculator: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
Here are some sample pics of the setup I'm running right now. http://mys4.org/userimages/b5-2001-A...rear-view2.jpg http://mys4.org/userimages/Audi-S4-b...ront-view-.jpg |
RE: Tire sizes
i bought 35/45/18's once and rubbed continuously so i immediatly took them off and returned them and got 35/35/18s
the only way to go that way you know there is absolutly no rubbing |
