Default Trying to pick up a B5 S4

So I got on this forum to do research because I wanted to get a nice AWD car that is more affordable and I can have some nice upgrades to. At first I was just thinking of the A4 1.8T B5. But doing more research and looking at prices I can spend just a little more, still saving money from what i am paying now, and get a used S4.

It will be a little after new years before I actually start seriously looking. I have to fix up the car I have now in order to be able to trade it in.

My question for you all is what all do I need to look for in the B5 S4 and what is the guesstimated price range so I know where I can talk a sales person down to. I also would like to know what I need to check to make sure I don't buy a "bad" car, if you know what I mean.

Thanks!!

Not being rude or anything. However, that s4 faq thread points a lot of the weak points of these cars. Also, use mileage to guide your self into what to look at specifically, like high mileage b5 s4 with the original k03 turbo are one big expensive time bomb just ticking away, their are also inherit design problems such as the original TBB and the DV.

The FAQ isnt that great....I wish i could edit it a little because its getting outdated and could be better organized IMHHEO

B5 S4 and "more affordable" arent found together in a sentence very often. Unless your saying "Im selling my S4 for something more affordable". Seriously, they arent cheap to fix and alot goes wrong.

It really isnt a car for everyone. Just make sure you know what your getting into first.

My S4 gave me a CEL and an AIRBAG light for christmas!

I found one for 9,999 with under 100k.

I know a friend that can help me lift the engine out and I want to swap turbos on the car at some point anyway so if my turbos go out that is when i will swap turbos.
