Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. Just blame it on being young and stupid. Pay the fine and move on.

I would say that if you get a chance to bust the cop for a boating violation, do it big time. Actually, any cop that you can bust out there, do it. Just be sure to let everyone of them know who their fellow officer is that just caused them grief.

That's a bullshit citation.

What determines excessive acceleration? Screeching tires? Not likely in the S4. Speeding? Well you weren't written up for it.

It depends on what the officer wrote, if there isn't much information about your antics then you could stretch the fact that the officer may have "over reacted towards my abrupt and slightly vigorous driving", and as long as it wasn't in a dangerous area.

Call it bullshit if you want. You have to think and look around and make sure that the area is clear before you power up. He's going to pay the fine in the end. The cops and the judge aren't doing this for the first time. They know a BS story when they hear it.

If he comes off as dishonest, it may just get more expensive. Its not worth it. If you are man enough to put your foot into it then you have to be man enough to own up when you screw up. People actually respect that.

If the OP is in the coast guard will he get into any trouble for this type of infraction. If so, maybe a conversation with the cop may get him off the hook this time.

im pretty sure the only thing punishable through non juditial punishment or UCMJ is wreckless driving and DUI's. ill have to double check though. i doubt they'd court martial me and send me to the brigg for showing off my car.

It's not about being dishonest or lying, if the officer didn't write the citation accurately explaining HOW he was accelerating excessively, then there are ways around it. Judges have to abide by the paper work (because more often than not, the officer doesn't show for court) and the accuser's interpretation. If one leans over the other, then they win.

Coast Guard most likely wont even hear about it. Its only traffic... I think they only report Misdemeaner B and A and felonies, ie: facing jail time stuff.
