Default Wheels and tires for new S4

Hi all...this is my first post to the board as I just recently bought a new '08 S4 AT6. I realize that this is a high performance car, but I find the ride a bit harsh, even compared to my old Porsche. Also, I live in Colorado where winters mean business on occasion. The car came with 18" wheels with Conti Sport Contact 2 tires, which are summer tires. I need to get all season or winter tires. My question is this....could I go to a 17" wheel (say from an A4) with allseason tires to improve the ride, or should I just get allseason tires for the 18" wheels? Do 17" wheels fit the S4 with its big brakes?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Go to Tirerack.com and see what wheels fit your car. If you're doing winter driving in Colorado, I'd suggest getting a set of wheels with winter tires. Then for summer, I'd just put all-season tires on the wheels you have. Going from a summer tire to an all-season tire will definitely improve the ride quality.

i know that the b5 has really big calipers so wheels are harder to come byI would say so does the b6 so you would have to get a wheel that would push away from the car like a 35X offsetwheel the smaller wheel you go the more options you will have tire also but there is 18inch snow tires out there

generally if your a 35 offset and higher youll prob be alright..

But yes, like yellow blur said, get a second set of cheap wheels and put snow tires on there... HOWEVER, if youre running 2 sets of tires, dont get all seasons for your summer set, thats a waste... all seasons suck..theyre average at everything and good at nothing... get a summer performance tires and get winter snow tires.
