Wiper problems

Ok its a 02 s6 and for some reason the wiper arms keep coming loose and move out of the normal

range or loosen enough where the arm just sits in place and the stud thing and nut spin free. First

time was due to ice build up making it stick and loosen up I guess. I just tightened the nut and it

was fine for a couple of weeks but again today got loose enough to just sit while the stud spun. I

took one off and saw the stud is thinner at the top and wider at the bottom kind of like a wedge.

It also has vertical grooves on the stud but the arm appears worn so its hard for me to know what

they are supposed to look like. Do the arms and studs have grooves that are supposed to mesh or

does just the nut pressuring the arm on the wedge like stud hold it in place? So any help would be

great and pics of how the arm and stud are supposed to look and go together properly also.

Thanks

RE: Wiper problems

If you tried to push compacted snow off your windshield with your wiper blades you probably stripped the motor gear, you have to replace the entire wiper motor assembly.

Actually its not my car its my fathers and I am not sure what caused it. I do know for sure that

the problem I am having is between the wiper arm and the little stud things that the arm bolts to

because the motor turns the stud things just the wiper arm is sometimes not tight enough to go

along.

RE: Wiper problems

those studs with groves are made out of really soft white metal? If so then overtightening them and then using them hard would wear them out in one shot, that part isprobably done..

RE: Wiper problems

I have the same issue with my 03 a4. Last year after a hard snow the blades started resetting in the middle of the windshield. I just pulled off the arms tonight. If you look inside the arm slot where the grooves from the wiper assembly are supposed to catch you will probably see that they are stripped...mine were. I removed the arms and let the motor reset withoutthe arms on the motor. Ithen placed the arms back on in the down position and tightened the nuts. I had to start with the arms slightly up for them to reset correctly. My motor still works but I think the arms need to be replaced due to the stripping. Let me know if that works.

i alwas thought the gears in wiper motors were very strong to handle ice and snow. do you hear any noise when the wipers are on?

Wiper Motor

I have a 2002 Audi A4 and the wipers are moving real slow. Even at the highest setting. Any ideas?

RE: Wiper problems

I've had the same problem with my wiper blade. Both the arm and the stud are threaded, so look at the arm and make sure that the threads haven't been worn down. You might need to replace the wiper arm, which is no big deal.
