If this is the wrong location for this post I apologize, but I am currently looking into buying an a4 / s4.

This seller (2004 Audi S4 4.2l V8) states that there is some noise on startup and is selling his vehicle for fairly cheap at that mileage. My concern is it could be something mechanically significant. I don't want to buy the car for 7-8k then have to immediately spend another two grand on a repair.

Any insight or suggestions would be amazing, thanks.

 

sounds like the timing chain is going bad. couple grand minimum. also these cars have an issue with piston scoring which usually leads to engine replacement.
