S5 With Sunroof. Is there a kit to make it slide back/open?
 

Hi, new to the forum. First post. I bought a great used 2012 S5 with sunroof last January (2017). It only had about 30K on it and is a manual. I've always owned convertibles but decided here in Northern VA - you either ride rich in the Summer with the AC on when you have the top down on a convertible or the cooler days in Spring or Fall - you ride rich with the heat on when you have the top down. I decided to buy the S5 with a Sunroof but really wish it opened up all the way, rather than just the 1.5" or 2" or so pop up. I've browsed for kits to convert it to an opening sunroof or partially opening and I can't find anything. Does anyone have any ideas or knowledge of kits out there for converting the sunroof from pop-up to opening/sliding back? Thanks.

I've been meaning to get ahold of a B9 A5/S5 to see the similarities in the roof, track system, and control panel. I know that the roof control panels on the B8/B8.5 A4/S4 and Q5/SQ5 are very similar but haven't researched if these are perfectly swappable. Assuming that we could swap the control units and they would work with the existing A5/S5 CCM (or we could replace with an A4/S4 CCM) then we could be on to something. However, the fitment of the glass roof and track system is the single biggest issue. Based on how a sliding sunroof would have to work with a B8/B8.5 A5/S5, the only option would be IF the newest B9 A5/S5 (coupe) has a roof and track system that could be adapted to the B8 platform. However, I think this is a bit of long-shot.

With all that said, the roof and track system on the A5/S5 is designed fairly intuitively. I've taken the roof off of both my (old) A5 and (current) S5 several times...to replace the sunscreen and to clean the rails.
